Hurricane Andrew

I was on vacation in Ft. Lauderdale at the time (I was 13). We got evacuated to Orlando. Almost all the hotels in Orlando were filled to capacity, so we had to stay in a filthy motel. But at least we got to go to WDW. ;) When we went back to Ft. Lauderdale after the storm, the beaches were a mess. Dead fish, birds and debris all over the place, the streets were covered in sand and the hotel next to ours was almost destroyed.

I got out of my first week of college from Andrew! It was a horrible storm. We were without power for about a week. But my grandma (who at the time lived across the street from us) had power after about 3 days. I just remember the devestation. I thank the Lord that we dont live in the coastal areas. We were hit bad enough.

Once we ventured out (after all the downed power lines were cleared) we found a nest of baby squirrels. The mom either was killed in the storm or abandoned the babies. We gathered the ones that survived and brought them to the LSU Vet School. It still makes me sad to remember that even the smallest of creatures were affected. It's a little unnerving knowing that there is another storm possibly headed this way.
