If the Magic leaves out of a different port, will they help get people to that port? I guess that is what they did last week with Key West?

Interesting. And, I wish you all the best of luck.

Yes, I was advised to get the transfers even though I had other transportation arranged. They will transport us from the Airport to whereever for $49/person and return us. Can't beat that.
My CM said Fort Lauderdale and probably Western, but then again, it's an "act of God" and who knows what will happen when.

I just heard (3:30 pm) on the news that Merritt Island (Cocoa Beach area) is evacuating tomorrow (Thurs.):( At this point, there is a Hurricane 'Watch' in effect for that entire coastal area & they're still calling it Category 4 (145 mph winds). I will say, this one is beginning to scare me.

im beginning to think our cruise will be the first one canceled because of weather. what do you guys think? i went to home depot inatlanta to buy my family generators.i hopemy vacation isnot centered around hurricane

I'm from Ft Lauderdale and as of this evening all non essential governmental employees were sent home and I am sure the port authority is also closing down the port. Our local sheriff has even convinced the school board to close down as of tonight. It is unprecedented! A few years ago we were on a "work day" when a cat 1 hurricane hit and the storm was on us before they let us go home! I have been teaching in this county for 26 years and we have NEVER closed down so early. So, I doubt very seriously that the port at Ft Lauderdale will be open on Sat. Perhaps Sunday, but not Sat. Max Mayfield the director of the national hurricane center said that they are about to put up a hurricane watch this evening. The port authority will make sure that all ships get out of port and close down, since they are not expecting it to hit until Friday/Saturday they may need to move to the west coast (Tampa)..however, the possible hurricane path cone goes right across the state so that may not be any good either. Perhaps they will send it out of New York (LOL). FEMA has asked that everyone prepare NOW because tomorrow may be too late. No evacuation orders yet, but it is coming if the storm stays on track. Charley has everyone running scared.

I work for a police department in palm beach county. They are ordering a mandatory evacuation in Palm Beach County for anyone that is in zone A which is essentially those east of I-95. This evac will take effect tomorrow at 2 p.m. and the local shelters will be open at that time. This hurricane is going to be very bad for florida. No one knows exactly where it will make landfall but they are estimating somewhere near Port Saint Lucie or Vero Beach.

I also doubt Fort Lauderdale will be a viable alternative for ports, but if the storm tracks north it could be used as an entry port on Sunday.

We are p utting our storm shutters up and getting ready for some difficult days.

I just looked at the newest report. I still go with my guess that I posted on the othere thread. The Magic will stay away from Florida until it is know to be safe and not try to dock anywhere. All of Florida is a possibility right now. Looks like the cruisers aboard might be the winners and the 9/4 cruise the ones with big problems.

Well, my thoughts and prayers are with everyone cruiseing this week. If you find the time, please do a live post and let us know how and what you are doing.
Thanks so much!

Gov Bush has just ordered a state of emergency for the WHOLE state. While I don't know what Disney is going to do about the parks or the cruise, I am with the others....I doubt that the Magic will make it back in on Sat. Don't forget that the ports won't open up again until they have been checked and rechecked by the coast guard, port authority etc. That is just a precaution to make sure that no debris will harm any ocean going vessel. That in itself may take a few days if this storm skirts the coast. So...keep in touch with the DCL and hope for the best. I am now praying for 2 miracles...little Sophie and that this storm disappears and hits NO LAND anywhere!

rae,
how does the transfer thing work if you ended up at disney resort? we were able to move flight to this evening and got two night ressie at cs. so we won't be at airport no matter what day our cruise starts.

You would need to call DCL and make sure that you have Resort to Port transfers (which are a little more $$ that Airport to Port because it is farther). Then you would need to find out what time the bus picks up at the closest resort to you (CS is not a pick up location as it is not a cruise line resort). But remember you will need to do this ASAP as the cruise line reservation center is currently in the direct line of fire for this storm and will more than likely be closed in the coming days.

PS, They used to let you pay for transfers as you boarded the bus if you did not have them already set up, I am sure given the circumstances they will do all that they can.
