I'm a newbie, and I am getting ready to take my kids (7& almost 3) on our first ever Disney trip in a few weeks. It's still a surprise for the kids, and I am absolutely bursting with excitement! I am reading about all the closures, and I am wondering if anyone has a dining recommendation for us: I'm looking for a relaxed lunch spot for us all to have a bit of a rest. The Hungry Bear sounded perfect, so I am looking for any equivalent suggestions. Thanks!

Harbor Galley is still open and has a secret spot for dining by the river that is very much like Hungry Bear.

It depends on what you are looking for in the equivalent? Are you looking for similar type foods, atmosphere, or location? In terms of atmosphere, I would look into River Belle Terrace for breakfast or the Stage Door Cafe. You can sit outside and watch people and the NOS/RoA activities as you dine.

Hungry Bear was nice because the seating was somewhat out of the way, so it was quiet at times. None of the other big QS locations that I can think of really have anything like that. Most/many have good people-watching or park-watching tables, but they are not generally quiet.

There are picnic tables over on Tom Sawyer island. I'm not sure how easy it would be to take food from another location over there on the rafts though.

It's a little bit busier on main street and it's table service, but Carnation Cafe might work for you too.

Personally, I wouldn't do this, even though it would probably be fun. The rafts aren't the fastest transportation method, you might have to wait, and you'd have to transport the food with you. I've generally found it was easier to eat the food wherever you ordered it from; I also don't know how many CS locations have take out containers (I've read that some do and some do not).

Just a note, but Carnation Cafe is a table service restaurant.

I love a quiet lunch at the Hungry Bear.
Rancho del Zocalo has some quiet areas, especially if you wait until after the initial lunch rush.

Thanks for the input everyone. ITs too bad that it seems that there isn't a Hungry Bear equivalent--I assume that many people with small kids like me are looking for a quiet meal to break up the day.

If you eat early, say around 11am, a lot of places will be on the quiet side. They will start to pick up around 11:30 and then get to be busiest around noon.
On my last trip we had lunch around 11am at Rancho del Zocolo and it was very quiet on the patio, except if you sit at the tables right next to the tracks for BTMRR, but it's kinda fun to watch the ride too!

Even Hungry Bear wasn't always that quiet; when the Columbia is running, you hear the cannon blast quite clearly at Hungry Bear. That ended the little one's nap!

Some quieter areas that come to mind are:
  • Redd Rockett's - the seating are outside the main room, across from Captain Eo's waitinga are can be on the quieter side.
  • Flo's V-8 Cafe - the seating area furthest to the back, outside, across from RSR can be relaxing.
  • Boardwalk Pizza - the seating area furthest from Paradise Garden Grill can also be on the quieter side.
