Hungry Are The Damned! 10/15/07-10/25/07 - COMPLETED W/LOTS OF PICS!!!

Well, I booked our tickets for October 2008 yesterday, but unfortunately we won't be there on a Saturday night. :headache: We're flying in on Saturday, but the flight doesn't get in until 6:45, so by the time we made it from the airport, got the kids settled in a kid's club, etc. we wouldn't be able to do a PFTS. :sad2:

So, I guess I'll have to gorge myself on the offerings at the kiosks instead, right? Can't wait to try most of the offerings you described. That's what I'm saving my Disney VISA reward dollars for!

Jodi

Well, now that you've had the chance to see our pictures from Party for the Senseless, I thought I'd give you a list of the handful of food offerings that we managed to miss, and provide you with a listing of the participating booziers for the evening.

The reason I want to do this is to give everyone who hasn't had a chance to attend the best idea of the overall scope and offerings of PFTS. It is expensive, there is no denying that, but when you consider the variety and amount of food and drink available, I still think it's a pretty good deal. If you enjoy trying new things and you like to drink, especially wine, then you should really attend PFTS at least once, just to have the experience. It really was a wonderful evening - Jay and I both agree ... if we lived in Florida we would do our best to attend every Saturday if we could!

Taste Treats That We Missed Out On

Peach Cobbler w/Peach Leaf & Mint Custard

A selection of really good chocolates that apparently were inhaled within 15 minutes of the doors opening (waaaaaaaaah!)

And much to my embarrassment ... an entire separate selection of cheeses that I never even spotted! :scared1:

That's a huge list of potential drinkage for anyone attending PFTS. My only complaint is that so many of the wines were the same ... I would have liked to have seen wider variety. White burgundy ... Beaujolais ... Port ... Grappa ... etc.

The issue is that the featured wineries at PFTS mirror those that are listed in the F&W Festival program guide - more likely than not, whoever has been hosting seminars all week is who you will see featured at PFTS. It's a sponsorship thing, I realize that, but you can only drink so many sauvignon blancs and cabernets before they all start tasting the same (at least to me).

I think a booth that featured dessert wines would have been a great idea, and I also think they should have had an espresso / coffee bar. But it would have to be something not sponsored by Nescafe.

So there you have it ... 8 thumbs up for PFTS and high hopes for a relatively affordable repeat in 2009! Hope you enjoyed the pictures. :goodvibes

You'll still have a great time at F&W - the world showcase food booths always have tasty treats and there are a lot of "free" seminars taking place every day (both cooking demonstrations and drinking options). And maybe you could think about a F&W Pairing at an Epcot restaurant ... they are a lot more affordable (last year was about $50 per person with tax) and usually take place from 3-5 on a given afternoon. It would give you a couple of hours "break" from your kids if you wanted and you'd still get to experience some special programming. All the pairings we've done were great except for Restaurant Marrakesh - that one was just bleh.

OMG I would have skipped the food, drank myself into a stupor and had to be wheeled out of there. I don't know how you survived it! You're my hero! :worship: :worship:

Thanks so much for sharing your review of PFTS, Brenda. It's not something I have ever thought about attending because I knew nothing about, but it sounds like a lot of fun. I can't believe that list of alcohol!

"WHAT?!?! They went to a party and left me stuffed in a suitcase? I'm glad I took the time to "wash their clothes" while I was in there!"

I felt like I was just hitting my stride by the time the event was over. :lmao:

All joking aside, though; I do think the event needs to be a little longer. They could stretch it to ten o'clock with no trouble at all - most of the attendees have already seen Illuminations so missing it one time isn't a big deal and there are still people in the park finishing up late dinners. Yes, another hour would have been purrrrrfect. :thumbsup2

Happy to share and glad you enjoyed it. One reason I did this was because it took a lot of research on my part to figure out what PFTS was - there just don't seem to be many reviews anywhere that have a lot of pictures and a lot of information. So once we finally figured out that this was something we really wanted to attend, I told Jay that I wanted to be able to come home and give everyone else the kind of review that would have helped me make a decision.

So it's not perfect, but it's what I would have liked to have seen and what I would have found most helpful. Call me selfish .... it's OK. ;)

Thanks again for reading!

We wanted to take him but didn't have a third arm with which to carry him and the other two were already full of food and booze. :lmao:

Thanks for sharing your PFTS experience with us, I am soooo looking forward to it!:thumbsup2

Glad you liked it Kathy - I know you're going to love PFTS! And I know we can count on seeing a great review once you're home! :thumbsup2

Plankton had his own party during the holidays when he made up for missing out on PFTS.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Everytime I watch "A Christmas carol" I'll have that running thru my mind now! :lmao: I wonder if Plankton's computer wife Karen knows that he stepped out on her that night???? :rotfl:

OOh, I may need to check out PFTS at some point.

I always heard people talking about this phrase "food porn", and I was mystified as to its true meaning. :confused3 Is food porn a cheesburger with a sly onion smile? An ice cream sundae with a strategically placed banana? A salad that is having a bit too much fun with the croutons? After reading this report, I think I understand...thank you, oybolshoi, for introducing me to this wondrous world. Whenever I need a fix, I'll be checking in...

I wish you'd said hello because I would have recognized your user name right away! And it would have been a hoot to actually meet you face-to-face. I probably was diving into some cheese that had the word Bliss in its name ... I wish I could remember what it was called because it was so so good. And I hope I didn't frighten you with the mad gleam I'm sure must have been in my eyes while I was piling all that cheese on my plate!

Brenda!
Is this the Cheese you are talking about?

Constant Bliss is a fabulous raw Ayreshire cow's milk cheese made exclusively from the fresh, uncooled evening milk of Jasper Hill Dairy in Greensboro, Vermont. The farm is owned by the Kehler brothers Mateo, who learned his craft at Neal's Yard Dairy in London, and Andy. As Constant Bliss ages, it retains an soft, assertive taste complemented by the tangy heat of its rind. The flavor is very clean and creamy with hints of mushroom at the finish. Constant Bliss pairs beautifully with dry Champagne or a Pinot Noir. One piece weighs approximately 8 ounces

Hi Brenda,
I just sent you a PM! Can't wait to read more trip reports! I have been so busy reading and catching up that I haven't actually posted any comments yet.

WOW!! those food pictures from PFTS look sooooo delicious...you need to have a warning above your posts "WARNING: Reading this DDR will cause extreme hunger and will cause you to run into the streets looking for the nearest food source, which will never live up to the pictures you're about to see!"

OK I'll work on the wording, it's a bit convoluted at this point.

Brenda - I'm so glad to be back on the DIS and reading your yummy reports!

Excellent! I was hoping you'd pick up the Christmas Carol reference! :lmao:

Everyone who loves food and drink should attend at least once! :thumbsup2

:lmao: :lmao: I love your descriptions of food porn ... so so funny, especially the ice cream sundae!

Thank you for reading - I'm glad you've enjoyed the reviews so far. The pictures are what make it all worthwhile ... I love reviews with pictures because I want to see the food and drool just a little. ;)

I think it must be, but I'm not altogether sure. I have "written" in my notes that the cheese I tried had hints of lavender. Maybe I was so far gone by the time I tried it that I was just making things up ... :lmao:

Constant Bliss sounds pretty tasty whether it's the one I'm thinking of or not ... I do believe I'm going to have to get my hands on some. Thanks for posting the info Kabuki! :thumbsup2

HK!!! You're back! And still just as amusing as the last time you posted! :rotfl:

If you're going to go running out into the streets looking for food watch out for traffic - it can get nasty up there in DC, as I'm sure you know! And thanks for reading with us - it's good to see you again! :goodvibes

Brenda - WOW. I don't think I would ever attend but I can live through you and Jay. My taste buds are not willing to try some of those dishes. The presentation was beautiful though.

Brenda .. no problem about the cheese info.. I am a Cheese girl myself and I hate when I don't write names down. It's always when I have wine in my hand too! :thumbsup2
If it had lavender .. try Purple Haze by Cypress Grove. It's actually one of my favorite cheeses and they have had it each year at the PSTS! They sell it at Whole Foods if you have one near you.

Brenda,

I just discovered you today. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your reviews and about your escapades. Just wanted to let ya know. I am now convinced that I must go to WDW during the F&W fest, and when I do, I have to do PFTS. I never heard of it before, and now I will never forget. Thank you.

Fantastic review Brenda! We don't usually get to Disney in October anymore but I think we might have to do it sometime just to go to the POTS!

Now I've got to get back to reading your blog.
