Hungry Are The Damned! 10/15/07-10/25/07 - COMPLETED W/LOTS OF PICS!!!

Watching the Giants and reading Brenda's dining review. What more can one ask for on a Sunday.

More please?

PS- The whole signature/credit thingie? Its why I am Soooo thrilled about the deluxe dining plan. I'll let you know how it goes in February!

We are having a wicked thunderstorm right now - seems a little weird for this time of year, but it does happen now and then. One of the joys of living in the midwest is that you never know what your weather is going to do from one hour to the next. ;)

I'm uploading pictures from the 17th (happy birthday to me!) and hope to start working on some updates later today. Gotta get those household things taken care of and I'm trying to get back into a work-out routine so that I don't gain back the weight I lost before vacation.

On a food-related note: we found a specialty shop yesterday that carries Humboldt Fog!!! So we bought half a pound and gorged on cheese last night. That did wonders for my weight loss program, I'm sure. :rotfl2:

Brenda,
Your B-day is the 17th? Mine is the 18th!!:goodvibes
We had a yucky rainy day yesterday, right in the middle of our soccer game, lemme tell ya...6 year olds playing soccer in the mud is real fun:sad2:
Hope you are staying dry, can't wait for the pictures!!
BTW, I agree on the Humboldt Fog..Mmmmm:thumbsup2

We woke up this morning to some big boomers around 6am. Doesnt mother nature know that we want to take advantage of that extra hour of dark to sleep in and not be disturbed by the rumblings and crashes of the heavens!:scared1: Wasnt long before we had a 3 yr old tucked in between us hovering under the covers  making this face :scared1: and this face, too!

Everyone was complaining all summer long about no rain at all and now you all are bemoaning the rain you got? :rotfl2: We are never satisfied are we?

oybolshoi , Happy Birthday! BTW, if you were on my diet the cheese is not only allowed but encouraged. :rotfl: I finally figured out that the best diet is one that I can stick to. Cheese and Chocolate for me please???

jusmom, Happy Birthday to you also! Trust me, one day you will miss all the mess. Hard to believe though is it not?? Been there, done that. :thumbsup2

TDC Nala, ain't British humor the best? They say the most ribald things but with their cultivated accents it just plain sounds classy and makes sense. :rotfl:

My cable was out, again, last night. I will be watching Desperate Housewives on my Internet today. Luckily we still have a TV hooked up to an antenna in the attic so we were able to watch something last night. Heaven knows we would not want to talk to each other. (secret to a long marriage ya know?) Would someone remind me why I am shipping in a large hunk of change each month to the cable company??:confused3

Slightly Goofy

Japan will never be the same...

:lmao: :rotfl2: Ah Brenda you never cease to amaze me!

oybolshoi We considered adding the dining plan on this trip said:
didn't[/I] eat, instead of just paying for the food we did eat. Does that make sense? Of course, it helped that we bought annual passes last year and were able to take advantage of the Disney Dining Experience card - that got us a 20% discount on every meal we had, including a discount on booze. You can't beat that if you're us, unless it's free! ;)

Brrenda, we were there for 11 days and debated the DP or not and ended up getting it...with F&W, the snack credits were easier than they usually are to use up usually (sounds like Eric Idle) and we opted for five signature restaurants plus Cellier to use the table credits. This worked out pretty well as we were able to spread out the gluttony. 1TS a night would have been tough. And we hit WPE for breakfast a few times for breakfast to use some CS...highly recommended.

QUOTE=oybolshoi

I could understand the changes if Disney were charging less, but they're taking away all the good stuff and charging more. It makes us drink less - we were at the pool for 8 out of 10 days on our trip and only had a drink from Hannah's that one time. And that's because the five mixed drink choices on the menu didn't appeal to us and we don't like drinking beer while at the pool. So instead of spending more on drinks we spent less - how does Disney make money on that?

We usually drink beer (from the room) or pop into the Crew's Cup rather than Hannah's and get a drink to go (DDE offsets tip)...lot's more drink choices.

Wednesday, October 17th - Crystal Palace and Breakfast with Pooh AKA: A Most Feculent Feast

**A love note to the readership: Due to some technical difficulties yesterday many of the most recent responses I posted in response to your recent posts in response to my posts...gack! It's a vicious cycle, isn't it? Anyhoo, those musings are no more, and since I can't even remember if I took my pills this morning let alone remember what I posted yesterday, please just let me say a big thank you to everyone for reading, posting, lurking and hopefully laughing. Maxiesmom: there's no right or wrong way to eat a cheese plate - just enjoy the by-product of what is essentially a bacterial process. ;) And happy belated birthday to Jusmom! Many thanks again to all of you for popping in to share the food love with us one last time. B&J**

I'm not exactly sure why I decided to book a character breakfast at Crystal Palace - Jay and I are not big fans of buffet food and we're not especially enamored of Winne the Pooh and his posse, although Jay does admit to a certain fondness for Piglet (could it be due to his Homer Simpson-like love of pork products?). I think the choice had something to do with my desire to get into the Magic Kingdom early on my birthday combined with the novel idea of trying a new restaurant.

Here's how the conversation went when I first had the idea:

"Hey buddy, what would you think of having breakfast with Pooh on my birthday?"

"I'm not really interested in contracting hepatitis, thanks anyway."

"Huh?"

"Breakfasting with poop is the most disgusting thing I've ever heard you say, and you've said a lot of really disgusting things over the last 13 years."

"Pooh...breakfast with Winne the Pooh! Not breakfast with poop!!!" :lmao:

Well, we got a big laugh out of that because if there's one thing that Jay and I really appreciate it's bathroom humor. And the end (see what I mean? Even now I can't restrain myself) result was six months of truly terrible humor that didn't stop until we finished our breakfast at Crystal Palace, re-christened by Jay as the Translucent Toilet.

Here's an early morning picture of Jay and me on the bus to the Magic Kingdom:

Unintentional birthday cleavage...no ice cream in sight
92.jpg

Despite what some of you may be thinking, I did not wear the color brown on purpose that morning. Although when Jay asked me about it my response could only be, "Are you trying to tell me I look like crap?" :rotfl:

We had our first surprise of the day when we arrived at the MK and found that CMs were just letting people into the park willy nilly. As far as we knew it wasn't an EMH morning, so we were a little baffled by this. We discovered later it was the morning that Fantasy Land opened early for the wee little children and their parents who were staying on property - that's a new one (or not, if we had bothered to read the 657 pieces of paper we were presented with upon checking in Monday morning). So there were a few more people wandering Main Street than I had hoped for, but I still managed a couple of pictures that weren't too bad.

Hey...down in front!!
98.jpg

The MK was really decorated well this year for fall and MNSSHP. Main Street seemed especially vibrant and I loved all the extra little touches that were on display. It really made me wish we were going to be attending the Halloween party on this trip, but **sigh** we'd already decided against that and had earmarked that money for something else.

I took some pictures of the costumed pumpkinheads anyway, because they were just cool.

Minnie seems really excited to see Plankton...
96.jpg

Hey Disney, we'd let you let us spend the night here
99.jpg

Having never eaten at Crystal Palace, we weren't exactly sure what to expect. We knew the food was going to be standard breakfast buffet fare; we knew that Winnie the Pooh and his friends would be there; we knew that it was likely to be crowded.

How crowded, you ask?

Take a laxative, CP; you've got a serious logjam building
100.jpg

There may be a few people left in this world who have never eaten at Crystal Palace, so please bear with me for a moment while I go through the arrival / check-in / seating process at this particular establishment. Located just to the left of the restaurant's front doors is a check-in / reservation window and one lucky CM who verifies guest reservations. At that point you are told to wait in the general vicinity and someone will "shout" your name when a table is ready.

I'm really a fan of pagers, especially when waiting outdoors with masses of people who all sound like they are speaking at the highest human decibel possible. Due to the noise around us and the whisper-thin voice of the CM calling for guests, we had to listen really hard for our name to be "shouted." It doesn't help that for some reason when people see our last name for the first time they always transpose the letters and call for what sounds like a very unique and hard-to-find German sausage.

"MENSCHWAGER!!! Party of two: MENSCHWAGER!!!"

That's us...I think...and we pushed through the human sea to the high ground where we were escorted to our table to, as Jason phrased it, "wallow in our own crapulence." Here is what will meet your gaze upon your entrance to the Translucent Toilet, uh, I mean Crystal Palace:

Topiaries!!! I love topiaries!!

123.jpg

I liked the atmosphere and the decor immediately. Light-filled and whimsical, I felt like we were breakfasting in the Victorian conservatory of a very eccentric individual. And lookie there! Said eccentric individual remembered that it was my birthday!

102.jpg

We were among the first guests seated that morning, so we decided to raid the buffet before the restaurant became overly crowded. It's a fairly small buffet area, compared with something like Chef Mickey's, but it's charming nonetheless.

125.jpg

The above picture is the area of the buffet where the "hot" foods are served. To either side are additional buffets with fruit, breads, salmon, and yogurt. There is also a children's buffet which includes that puffed french toast I'd read so much about.

Brenda's plate: I'm saving room for all the meals still to come today
105.jpg

Jason's plate: missing! :scared1: I don't know what happened...I'm sure we took a picture of his plate, but then again maybe we didn't. I do know he had some kind of egg-ey frittata dish on his plate that he said was pretty tasty, but aside from that I'm willing to bet we both had a lot of the same things.

Biggest food disappointment: the puffed french toast (you can see it at the top of my plate). It was completely coated in sugar - makes my teeth hurt just thinking about it. The closest comparison I can come up with is that the puffed french toast is like a jelly donut without the joyous discovery of a jell-filled center. Too gritty and sweet for my taste. Oh, and excuse me waiter, could I get six more packets of sugar for my cup of coffee? ;)

So the food was exactly what we thought it would be, nothing more and nothing less. The service and the character interaction were great. Our waiter was attentive and helpful and invited us to stay as long as we liked even after we'd paid the bill. And we did hang out for a bit in order to nab some pictures with Pooh and his Dingleberry Gang.

First up: a painfully bright Tigger.

It is physically impossible to take a bad picture of my husband...
104.jpg

I also had my picture taken with flourescent Tigger but it didn't turn out very well so it seemed best not to include it here.

Don't look now, but here comes Pooh!! :rotfl2:

Pooh is so soft and cuddley
107.jpg

You're hugging Pooh!
108.jpg

Why yes, I think a picture of the two of us with Pooh would be lovely...
109.jpg

I'm not proud, but by the time the poor bear had moved on Jay and I were doubled over with hysterical juvenile laughter. We moved on from Pooh jokes to those tired old Uranus jokes and then I topped off a grand old morning of laughter with my favorite version of Yankee Doodle, which I first heard when I was six years old. I'm not sure if I can post it here ... it's not really offensive but it is kind of gross. I guarantee that if any of you have children, especially boys, they'd love it. Really intrigued? Send me a PM and we'll have a little conversation.

**I seem to have exceeded my image limit in this post, so I'll have to continue in the next one ... please stay tuned.**

Now if I've timed this right, it should be a wilma-bride sandwich :rotfl2:

Brenda, you have no idea how disappointed I am about the disappointment that was caused to you by the disappointing puffed french toast - it still remains my favourite breakfasty treat. Obviously, I have a sweeter tooth than you.

And I will apologise in advance for the fact that you've now prompted me to retell my favourite joke of all time:

Why did Tigger put his head down the toilet?

He ws looking for Pooh :lmao:

Guess CP is off the menu in future then huh :confused3

:lmao:

Brenda, I do like the Crystal Palace but we went there for dinner. We small children so pooh was a good choice for a character dinner. We also did Chef Mickey's. I personally like Pooh, Winnie silly :lmao: Anyhow. I did PM you because my boys are 8 and 6 and LOVE toilet talk. Can't wait for more.

Welcome back to the rest of the review!

Did I mention that they knew it was my birthday? Look at what else the lovely staff did for me at breakfast.

A birthday cupcake for me!
110.jpg

And for me!
111.jpg

A yummy little cupcake with a heaping helping of sugary frosting and a birthday card signed by all the characters! :goodvibes I thought they only did that kind of stuff for the kids - I didn't know I'd be on the receiving end of a little dust stuff myself. So thanks, Crystal Palace, for making this old crohn feel just a little bit more special that morning.

I split the cupcake with Jay and the frosting was so thick it didn't even move when I pulled the knife through it. :lmao:

Ee-yow!!
118.jpg

It looks like Eeyore is ready to wallop me upside the head. Do you think he's upset about the Pooh jokes or did he want some of our cupcake?

Oh bother, another picture with a chronically cheerful guest...
119.jpg

And last but not least ... the reason we waited at our table for the second birthday parade to pass us by...

Piglet!

My friends call me Pinky
120.jpg

Mmmmmm....unprocessed pork product
121.jpg

And thus ended our adventures with Pooh and his friends. It was a fun-filled morning with decent food and while we're unlikely to go back again, we'd highly recommend it for parents with small children and lovers of character breakfasts. The character interaction was especially good - they stopped at every table for pictures and autographs. Give it a try if you haven't already - who doesn't like entering the MK before official opening? ;)

Coming up next: a brief review of Casey's and some ducks... ;)

I understand ... really I do. I've been cackling like mad all day working on this. Someday I'll grow up. ;)

Hmm... must be new on the menu. We only got hot dogs there.

Did I say duck? I meant hot ducks ... I mean duck dogs ... uh, hot dogs. ;)

My DD6 was upset the other night about mom being at a meeting, and making jokes about her Winnie the Pooh sitting on her head and making Pooh Poo-Poo got her to stop crying about missing mommy.

She wouldn't let me sing Stinkle Stinkle Little Toot to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, though. That's a true classic.

I just love your Trip Reports! Can't wait to read through another one!:surfweb:

Dare I ask if you can share the song with us here? Unless it would get your hand slapped - then I would just ask if I can PM you for the lyrics. It sounds like the kind of tune that Jay and I could really get behind. :lmao:

Hilarious as always brenda :rotfl2:

Thanks Jo; glad you enjoyed our immaturity! :thumbsup2

I can attest to that story. He actually had to call me Friday while I was scrapbooking to get her to calm down. Since she's only 6, the lyrics are pretty mild, but she gets very upset when he tries to pass that off as her Twinkle song.

Let me explain, she needs someone to sing Twinkle, Twinkle to her every night before she can go to sleep. Daddy doesn't like to sing it in a normal way, so he'll either try to sing it in a character voice (like Yoda or Mr. Lunt from Veggie Tales) or he makes up new lyrics. Stinkle, Stinkle Little Toot is his favorite. He'll have to share the lyrics though because I'm usually laughing too hard to actually hear them all.

Jodi

Glad your bday was off to a great start! We were there for one of the Little Ones EMH (but anyone can go--it's only Fantasyland open, though) and it was even more crowded than your picture! Just from the pics I've seen posted, it looks like CP would be more appealing at lunch to me. Did Plankton not run amuck at the buffet? He seemed very sedate this morning...lack of caffeine maybe?

I did love 1900 Park Fare's breakfast, though. If you like bread pudding, I though theirs was super yummy! I take it you don't like Tonga Toast, either, since it's rolled in sugar? Pity...just send it my way...no such thing as too sweet, as long as you have a big glass of milk!

I hope you had corn dog nuggets at Casey's; I've been wondering how they are!

Thanks for the background info, Jodi. It's good to know that Jay and I aren't the only ones who find this stuff amusing. ;)

Plankton was actually very well behaved on this trip ... it's kind of a complicated story. Some day I'll get around to explaining it. ;) As for the little ones EMH ... we just thought it was funny that we were allowed to go through without any little ones. But at least it made things quicker - I wasn't looking forward to pushing though a crowd to get to a CM with a clipboard and a list of names for early entry.

I'm not a huge fan of bread pudding, either, although I've been known to eat it on ocassion. As for the tonga toast - it's a pass for me. Too sweet and too gritty.

No nuggets at Casey's, sorry. We're purists when it comes to a stop at Casey's and we always get the same thing to eat every time we go there.

Thanks for reading! :goodvibes
