humidifier or vaporizer

what's the difference? Vick's makes a small room model of both. The humidifier is more expensive. I have sons who share a small bedroom. They both have sinus problems, especially in the winter. I'm assuming the problem is the dry air and allergies. I'd like to put some moisture in the air and sometimes add the liquid vicks to it. Does anybody have any ideas?

yes dan that helps. But to make things more confusing vaporizors come in both cool and hot mist versions.

I would say if you want cool, get a humidifier, hot, vaporizer. JMO.

My Pediatrician recommended cool mist for everyday use. My kids have sinus problems/allergies also. We run cool mist every night in each kids room. I just bought a warm mist though, because my kids both just had the really bad chest cough and cold. You can only put the Vicks in the warm mist, and I feel that helps a lot with the congestion. You mentioned your sons have a small bedroom. My sons room is quite small (8x5 i think just a guess it fits his twin bed, no dresser and a bookcase). I noticed when I put the warm mist in his room that when I checked on him at 1 or 2am--his room was quite humid so I shut it off--it seemed too damp. My point is small rooms may be too small to run it all night.

Which ever you choose make sure to clean them with a bleach or vinegar solution. Both are great breeding environments for bacteria. Especially when you are trying to deal with respiratory issues the last thing you want is more exposure to bacteria.

My understanding is that for most colds a cool mist (humidifier) is best.

But for chest congestion, the warm mist (vaporizer) is best. Also with some of the vaporizer you can get menthol oil to use with it that helps lossen thing up.
