"Humans" on AMC - Anyone watch?

I was initially torn as to which way she would go, but before she did choose, felt she would make the choice she did. It was an eye opener for Sam, who now seems to be the one most interested in fighting back. I did wonder though, do you think they are implying Sam's thoughts/ideas are less formed/more malleable than those of "older" synths? Was he more affected by her choice and perhaps felt a stronger emotional connection with humans than the others would have, due to being a child? Could his "programming" be at a different level, a less mature state than the others? Maybe I am reading too much into this!

Yes, love this show! I was really surprised at the scene with Sam and the old guy. But honestly, there was no right choice there and I think she's being too hard on herself. She didn't actually know Sam all that long and yes while he may feel and think it's still not exactly the same as being human. The old guy may be a stranger but he may have a wife, children, grandkids, etc. He even seemed to feel fear more than Sam in that moment. Their lives really aren't exactly the same as humans so her choice is understandable to me. I don't think it should diminish all of her hard work on their behalf.

Well I think it goes a bit deeper than that. Yes she's been working hard on their behalf but the whole time she's been preaching equality for the synths. And yet when offered the opportunity to save a synth she knows (and one her husband loves) over a human that she doesn't know, she chose the human. Kind of makes her a hypocrite.

Agreed. She had a relationship with Sam, none with the man off the street. Yet she chose an adult human stranger over an at least partial family member child version synth. If Sam had been human, would she have hesitated to choose to save him? I don't think so.

My whole family watches this show together. We don’t really do that with any other series. She redeems herself in the 2 part season finale at least. Ultimately unless you grew up with conscious synths , even Laura wouldn’t see death as the same thing between them. Her daughter will probably grow up to not have the same conflict because she would see them as the same.
