Northfield Center Township - The Summit County medical examiner determined the body found at Interstate 271 and Ohio 8 Wednesday (May 28th) was human.
Investigators are calling the remains "J. Doe" because they are unsure whether the body, which was wrapped in plastic, is male or female.
The medical examiner said the remains are from a black person, in their early teens to 30s, and 6 feet, according to Sgt. John Peake of the Summit County Sheriff's Department.
The body was decomposed and appears to have been there some weeks to months.
The person had extensive dental work, Peake said.
"Forensic anthropologists will finish conducting an investigation to determine the cause of death," he said. "As they do their part, we are trying to identify the person."
Peake said investigators picked up debris and trash near the body in case it is connected to the case.
A surveyor discovered the corpse about 2 p.m. on an embankment near the entrance ramp of Interstate 271 at Ohio 8 and called Macedonia police.
The Sheriff's Department is handling the case because the corpse was found in Northfield Center Township on the Macedonia border.
This news has my daughter really concerned. To my recollection, nothing like this has happened since we've lived here. The place where the remains were found is within half a mile of Nordonia High School (where my son attends).
I hope that the coroner can determine the identity so that his/her family can have some closure. Prayers for all those who have missing loved ones.
