Hula left her room then all chaos broke out! Nobody home in a staff room doesn't work

how about something like. Hula left her room and then all chaos broke out? or Nobody home in a staff room doesnt work?

I just got the impression that seeing Hula lost control, almost makes it seem like she was there and did nothing. You know some people skip to the last page and dont even read all the posts before chiming in ROFL.

Ok thanks for the tips, check out title and first post now.

Saying 'please choose a teleporter' only goes so far. "Helpers" are great for explaining to players how a game works or where to go next, but there is absolutely nothing, beyond using the call for help button, that they can do about players who just don't want to move on, and in fact I have more than once seen trouble start with a 'helper' being a little too pushy and another player deciding to be contrary just to spite them. I completely sympathize with Hula being unable to run her room today, but I do not think that leaving the room open to be run by regular players was the right move.

I mean, we've seen Lily or Fin step in many, many times when poor Hula is having connection problems. Why didn't that happen? Or, if it wasn't possible, why not have a regular staffer set up base in the room when she wasn't responding to other calls for help? A staff member who pops in every few minutes to boot the loiterers would be far more effective at keeping the room moving than a player who has no way of enforcing the rules, and she'd at least function as an effective threat for the CL to use in the meantime. ("VMK_Red will not be happy if she comes back and you're still here..." is at least something other than "Step into the teleporter, pretty please, or I'll ask you to step into it again.") And failing that, why not just close the room early? There are worse things than canceling a Monday morning host room, and I think allowing this kind of chaos is right up there on the list.

I completely agree with all of this as well.
I'm sorry, but when I walk into a host room and I have to listen to regular players as "helpers" sit there and tell me and everyone else to hurry up and get into a teleporter, there's a big line - blah blah blah ... it feels like they are yelling at us.
Did the "helpers" ever begin to think for one second that maybe I am standing there for a few moments, because I am waiting for the flipping room to load??!! I can't see where I am going, because there is no furniture placed.
That's what it feels like to me when that's all I hear when I go into a host room, is yelling. And the constant reminder given by these "helpers" that there is a big line. No kidding? Isn't there always? Tell me one day where there is no line for a host event, and then maybe I'll hear you.
I just ask for these "helpers" tone to not be that of yelling, and not be so condescending. You would help a lot more players out, by just actually "helping" with the players that don't understand what to do, or that are actually holding up traffic. :thumbsup2
I realize there are other players standing around, but most of us are not doing it on purpose. Trust me, I would like nothing more to be in and out of a host room, with my prize, and be on my merry way. ;)

So True, and now with all the spinning I am never sure which one is me until it completely loads, because my title does not pop up either until the spinning stops. Even my princess hat does not show up until the spinning stops. lol

OMG how annoying is the spinning for sure! I honestly don't even know where the Host is too, let alone my virtual self, until the spinning stops. So add that to the list of why we may be standing at the door for a few moments. :thumbsup2

glad to help, that is why I am standing there waiting and spinning lol:rotfl2:

Well I was just saying because before I even opened the thread I thought you were slamming Host Hula.

Good grief, Aengus. I go to WDW and all sorts of crap breaks out. I guess
I just can't go to WDW again. ;) To be honest, I've seen Hula have some
connectivity issues in the past. There were many times she would crash
and come back. I wouldn't be surprised if she crashed. I also wouldn't be
surprised that all of the VMK staff are very concerned about the fires in
southern CA. It's very scary and I had been thinking of friends that live
down there.

My thoughts...

No helpers at all. If hosts need help, ask a staff. Having a helper or helpers just takes up a slot from others trying to get in. Even though this month is only the bat bags, previous months had some cool prizes that i missed out on.

Think about it, if host has a helper, that person takes up a slot. Maybe 2 to 5 people can go in a minute per slot. Let's say 3 to average. That's 180 an hour, for a three hour event, that's holding up 540 people from getting in.

Very realized. The ones that need to get moving are the ones, minutes later, still standing in the same spot.

If you're loading, say something if you can.

If I've ever sounded condescending, it has never been intended to be that way. Apologies in advance.

Hula dear, I hope your friends are ok. You always do what's in your heart and that is one of the best things about you. We're here for ya hun! :grouphug:

What about the people that bring in two, three, four plus characters, or what about the ones that come in twice? Can't forget them.

I agree with this. I did not realize that Hula had picked official "helpers". They really can't help if a major problem occurs. Also, when players see other players as "helpers", they figure they will "help" too. The onlly thing this helps is creating a line for the prize room.

I would also like to appologize if anyone thinks I am trying to rush them when their screens are still loading. This is not my intention. The people I am trying to ask to hurry through are those who;
Have been there longer then 5 minutes
Have asked the same questions over and over and have gotten answered
Are waiting for friends
or Wont leave till they see/get pic with/added to friend list of that host.
I have seen players wait more than ten minutes for a friend to arrive. I think most of you appricaite that we do try our best to keep the lines moving as fast as we can. From what I hear yesterday the wait time was around 10 minutes to get into the room.

As for the CL vs. regular player helpers.
No none of the helpers, CL or not, have the power to boot a player for being rude, trading, or staying too long. I have always found a way to let Host or staff know if there is a problem in the room. Since CL and players can not have Hosts on their friend list leaders have no advantage in asking for help. Hosts choose who helps by how they act not by a title.

I do agree that being a helper is not a time to visit with your friends. A quick Hi or occasional How are you? is fine. But if your there to help out, help. If you want to visit friends do so after or leave. Your there to help out with questions if needed, to keep the lines moving and get as many players as you can through the rooms for more to come in.

Again, if you think I am rude, pushy, or disrespectfull I am sorry. I try my best to get through as many players as I can. If your loading the room don't think I am trying to rush you through. I know who has been there long enough to load the room and is just hanging around and those who have just entered.

ForeverWDW Iv'e always found you to be quite cordial and nice!!:goodvibes and TY for that!!:thumbsup2

Again I was in Host Room, and to respond to ForeverWDW post, my observation was, you were a very effective helper!

The original title, and Part of this post? Have been edited from there original form. That was originally posted. So now it is less condensending then what was first read.

My opinion is no game is perfect and you just have to expect these things to sometimes happen, and if you have a problem with the game then use the contact us, and let Vmk know! If using contact us, Vmk staff who read the messages, should let the Host know, or persons involved, that people were concerned about a particular Host event. If you have a complaint against helpers in general, let them know by again ,using contact us.

Vmk when contacted and given specific reasons for something happening at a particular event or events, may be able to rectify the situation then.

Again My opinion is, posting here your complaint is not helping Vmk to fix whatever problems may or may not exist.

The majority of helpers are quite good, how long are we in a host room for anyway? And again if some people feel that the host event was not run correctly, or that some helpers are aggressive, or not helpful or show offs, then contact Vmk and state your concern.

If you take the time to list specific concerns and titles of who was offensive in there duty as a helper, or you question them being asked to help in the first place, maybe Vmk will look at that concern and address the problem.

There are sometimes in any situation, going to be a few bad apples that spoil it for the rest. And Vmk does allow every player to contact them at any time to voice there concerns.

I have never known you to be rude when you are helping the host. You do not chat with your friends or get pushy. You were in the first room yesterday and I saw no problems in that room. Keep up the good work!!

I so totally agree hun!

I was there yesterday and noticed the same problem about the queue in the second room where there was not much order at all. I didn't really see the person helping actually helping much or asking people to keep moving.

I think the best way to fix the problem would be of course get staff to help out but in reality, I'm sure they have more important things to do than sit in a room for 3 hours and tell people to move when for the most part it is usually ok and the helpers in the room do a good job. The safety of a friend or anyone for that matter is much more important than a bat bag or waiting in line for a few extra minutes.

I guess I can be slightly bias because Hula has let me help out a few times this month but, I have seen people enter the room more than once and I have also been able to answer a few questions of people who said they were going to wait for hula to come back when she gets disconnected which could have taken a few minutes. I've tried to be kind to everyone and if a friend comes in i'll say a quick hi how are you but nothing else much if they are there to play the game they should do that.

I don't think that a host should allow someone to help though if they aren't helpful of course. If they are chatting with friends or just there to talk to the host in the room and not assisting players why even be there? And I did notice when i went through the person helping was not really helping anyone but singing this is Halloween over and over and from what i saw gave a few rude comments to people who asked a question.

And a bit off topic but a reply to some peoples comments:
And as for Fins games, I think she really should have a helper in the pin trades especially but of course, I respect her decisions. I think they should have someone who knows what is going on to speed up players. Since they put the unlimited line limit on the queues, it hasn't helped anyone who had problems before with the 50 line limit to get into rare events like yard sales and pin trades. If you aren't in the top 200 people, you probably won't even get in and 200 people get in line within seconds. It takes me around 15 seconds to complete a trade because I am quick and know what i want and what i will trade and look to see what page it is on before hand. Others take 1-3 minutes (i can't actually say they are just being slow some may have lag or be freezing) in a trade and I think if there was someone there assisting players as to what pins u can trade, what pins fin is trading, and asking if the players are ready, it might speed up things a bit. I'm afraid a lot of people may be taking the opportunity to ask fin a question or two which really isn't the place to do it because of what is at stake for the people behind them in line.

The only place where a helper would affect how many people would get into a game a lot is teleporter games but the lines move so fast anyways, I don't se e where it really makes a big difference. 100 people on average go through the line every 10 minutes and the lines are usually around 800 people. Many people do go in twice as other have said so it doesn't seem to be that big of a problem.

Secondly, if it is something like a pin trade or a game where people are in line, it really doesn't affect the line at all. If only 10 people get to play, there are still people waiting in line in the room. As long as the host would let 1 more person in than they would have actually, there really shouldn't be a difference in how many people got in. Same for pin trading, they host can only wait on 1 person at a time. 1 person helping out really doesn't affect who actually gets in the room as long as the host would allow 1 extra person to play. If anything, it would speed up the players.

well, at least thats how i see it, I could be wrong someone please let me know if that doesn't make sense.

But to get back on topic:
Why doesn't anyone give Hosts credit for running a game well? It's only when something goes bad everyone brings attention to them.

I'd like to thank Hula for all the other times that she has had successful games. And I really hope her friend is ok. I have to remind myself a lot, its just a game, there are more important things in life than waiting in line to get a virtual bat bag that i already have more than i will ever use. There are plenty of other opportunities this month to get one.

<3 Thank you for all you have done for vmk Hula, I appreciate it immensely. <3

I agree with those who said no helpers. There should not be a circumstance where the host is not there and needs a regular player to stand in. If the host can't be there, that is fine, but another host needs to be able to step in. All that having "helpers" does is take up spaces and make it the wait longer in line.

You have an excellent point, Give the Hosts Credit for the good job they do ! Like with just about anything in life, nothing is perfect. Always try to remember the positive, not dwell on the Negatives. It is just a game, there are more important things in life then getting a free:thumbsup2 virtual prize.
