Huge Strollers

What I don't understand is why anyone thinks their convience and comfort trumps everyone elses.

^^^With this statement, you are thinking YOUR comfort & convenience trump those of a parent using a stroller. Why do you belief your space is more valuable than mine.

And actually I am being respectful by bringing my stroller. What would be rude would be for me not to bring one and walk 6 wide down Main St. Or through Adventureland. All the while, having to stop or slow down for the 3 yr old to catch up because he's exhausted. And because he's simply 3 and wants to stop to look at everything.

I also don't want to use an umbrella stroller. They usually don't come with canopies & I don't want my child getting sunburned. They usually don't come with a storage basket, so I'll have to carry everything too. And the support is lacking and there is not a comfortable way for my child to nap in one. ETA: And I shouldn't have to spend $40 of MY money on a stroller that would cover all these issues to make YOU happier.

My dollar spent to enjoy the parks is worth the same amount as yours. Your space is not more valuable and I don't believe mine is. And if you don't like strollers, I suggest you pick a place that isn't family oriented.

I don't recall ever writing that we were one of those families that did stay open to close, so I am mildly offended that you are offering me this unsolicited parenting advice, and that other posters are giving it the thumbs up. .
Be offented all you want, that is on you not me. I never said YOU did tour the park from open to close. I was giving it to you form a PERSONAL perspective. Not a judging perspective at all. As a parent sometimes we have to change how we do things to accomidate our kids.

My kids must be super kids because at 8yo they could deffiently be in the park for 8 hours, walking the entire time, since I would never burden myself with a stroller, without being too tired to walk. :confused3

That's great for your kids. Perhaps they are super human. I'll let you know in 6 months how mine does and if she needed the stroller.

And you can tell which is which by just looking at them? X-ray vision?
Do I need to know the difference? It is not like I am the "stroller police" giving out sitations for abuser. I am simply stating my opinion. And my opinion is that the average child over the age of 5 has no need for a stroller. The stroller is NOT for the child at that point but for the convience of the parent.

The biggest reason I have heard so far for an older child being in a stroller (other than medical needs) is that they couldnt' keep up with the rest of the group. Here is a whacky idea SLOW DOWN.

I have zero problems with normal sized strollers. I have children and used them for years.

All I ask is that those using SUV size strollers be considerate of others. Just like I wouldn't block a pathway with myself and my family and ignore others trying to get through I would hope those with SUV strollers would show the same consideration (sadly, my experiences tell me that's often not the case). I'm not nearly as concerned about anyones space as I am about considersation or lack thereof.

Honestly does it matter about the stroller? When my boys were little, I took the stroller we had and honestly never thought a thing about it. You are at Disneyland... have fun and let the kids be comfortable... it is Disneyland, the happiest place on earth.. enjoy!

Thank you!

I've been taking my kids to Disneyland since they were 3 & 5. We have never used a stroller. I honestly don't see how they are even helpfull. If you tour in an orderly fashion, you are going ride to ride (or attraction to attraction) what purpose does the stroller have?

My children have always napped in the stroller. I wouldn't dream of going without one with a child under 4 or 5.

...I love it because it works for us. I don't care what size the stroller is because it is about the child's comfort and their parents know how to meet their child's needs best.

Yes, and this is what it is all about. If you need a big stroller for napping, or for space or comfort, or because it is all you have, do what gets you family happily through the Happiest Place on Earth!

And obviously there are exceptions to every "rule" but the average 7yo is able to walk around the parks.

And how do you determine what is "average?"

Have you considered that maybe you need to leave the park earlier, so they (especially the 8yo) aren't so tired they can't walk?

No, I haven't and I resent your implication that YOU know what works best for my, or any other, family. My son takes a great nap in the stroller in the park. Generally my parents or I will stroll with him, get a snack, or maybe head back to the room. Can you imagine the nightmare scenes of toddlers having breakdowns headed for the gates with parents who missed that perfect window of when to get their children down for a nap because they were in a line or doing something? All the stroller hates would be begging for some place for the poor kids to lay down.

We used to be an open to close park visiting family, but when my 13yo daughter started having melt downs because she was too tired we changed the way we toured the parks. We no longer open to close park tourers. We leave the parks at 9 - 10pm, so we can get our sleep.

I'm sorry but I don't think you should be giving any advice about 7, 8 year olds in strollers...if a parent chooses to push their child around at any age...it's their choice.

I would be more concerned with a whining teenager.:confused3

My guess we all know what average means.

I think what works best for EVERY family is putting the needs of the child over your own. Which leaving the park early enough so they aren't too tired to walk or have a melt down.

Actually, my son is better off to drift off to sleep in the stroller. Again, you don't know my family so you can't tell me what works for my children. If my son was tired enough to need a nap, he'd be sad about leaving the park; if he wasn't tired yet, he's be mad. So he walks around and when he gets tired, we pop in the stroller. What happens after that (whether he naps in the park or we go back to the room) is none of your concern, really.

I don't know of a teenager alive that doesn't whine.

And since so many like to point out that no one knows if the child has an "invisible" disability. Maybe you should remember 8yos in strollers aren't the only ones who might have "invisible" disabilities. 13yo girls can also have "invisible" disablilities.

OP you say those with huge strollers shouldn't bring their strollers because its rude to not consider others needs.....ummm aren't you doing the same thing by condemning those that have bigger strollers? Aren't YOU being rude for not considering THEIR needs.....or is it all about you and your needs? To everyone else that has issues with other's stroller choices (not talking about getting rammed in the ankles, but have issues with size of the stroller or how old of a child is in the stroller)....GET OVER YOURSELF!!! ITS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!!!! Enjoy your own family, and stop getting bent out of shape because someone does it differently than you.

People can bring in whatever they want as long as it is alowable. My issue is with those that do bring the SUV strollers (the HUGE ones not a normal sized ones or normal sized doubles) and are inconsiderate. Sadly most that I have seen that do have those things tend to be inconsiderate of others. It almost seems that the bigger the stroller the less consideration they have for others. If someone is trying to get down and aisle in a store I move so they can pass. I wish those with the SUV strollers would do the same, rather than just ignore the other guests. Bringing a stroller to DL shouldn't give people license to be inconsiderate to others. I chose not to bring a bigger stroller to DL because I do care about other people's space. To each their own, I guess.

EXACTLY!!! So everyone stop judging other families, and complaining about what they are doing, and take care of your self and your family.

I have a Graco Duo Glide (double tandem stroller). I wouldn't call it an SUV, but it is bigger than a single. However it takes up less room than if I were to bring 2 single one in.

And I've actually found those pushing strollers to be the most considerate of space (on the whole) because are always being so careful NOT to bump into somebody. Or take up too much room.

And I have no issues at all with my DD napping in the stroller while DW and I take turns riding rides that DD is too small for or doesn't want to ride. I also think its best for DD to have a stroller to sit in rather than walk all day. I don't think leaving the park early is necessary at all if you have a comfortable mobile place that your child can rest. I see nothing wrong with that at all. We bring a small pillow and blanket and DD loves falling asleep in there. Heck durin the day when she gets tired but not enough to nap she lies down in the stroller with her pillow and blanket between rides. Never fell asleep till after it got dark but she lied down in the stroller off and on through out the day.

Exactly what I was thinking!

3,4,5,6,7,8 yr old in a stroller...doesn't matter...the issue is "huge strollers"....but even if left my "huge" stroller at home...I'd still rent one & those are even larger...so if you have a point or want to complain about huge strollers...do just that...but quit judging why or why not a child is in one? It's none of your business....just tell yourself it's an "invisible" disability...and you'll feel better?!

:)

Agreed and I want to add that those that keep saying what they do as some kind of fix to another persons issues. Just because it works good for you doesnt make it right or helpful for anyone else.
