Okay, not really a huge problem, but more of a dilemma.

UK just advanced to the Final Four tonight, which means they will next play on Saturday - the first day of our Western cruise on the Magic.

My wife and I are both UK alumni and my parents, who will also be on the trip, are even bigger fans than we are. So, within minutes of the game being over, my mother was on the phone with DCL to make sure they would have the game. They said it would be shown in the sports bar on board. *whew*

After confirming that, though, we realized that tipoff is scheduled for around 8:45 p.m. - and we have late dining. Ouch.

Anyone know what kind of options we will have for dinner that night? Eating early at the buffet isn't an option, because it's not open on the first night of the cruise, right? Would it be possible to have some kind of meal in the sports bar? We also have two daughters - age 5 and 6 - along. Will they be able to watch the game in the sports bar area along with us?

There are snacks in the lounges but not real food. However, you can get a real meal from room service or "fast food" type options on the pool deck.

Well, you could do room service, or any of the quick service counters on the pool deck, as those should be open. I think some of them close between 6-8 but then reopen for "late" night snacks. The sports bar area will probably have snacks, too - I've seen nachos, etc out in the past. Your kids will not be allowed in that area, however, in the evening. The kids clubs do open at 6pm on the first night, so you could leave them there after feeding them from one of the above options. (If it was some other day, they could eat with the clubs, but that first night they don't do dinner there, either.)

Good luck to your team!

Hi, I am the wife in this situation. While I love my Cats, I don't want to eat the quick service and then put the kids in the club for our first meal on vacation, so I will probably be taking them to the DR that evening and UK will just have to pull of the win without me watching them LOL.

I have to agree with you on this one. :)

This is too funny. Here's what I'd do. Tell your servers the situation, they'll get you a full meal in record time. Then put your kids in kids clubs, they'll love it, while you watch the second half. Sounds like a memorable cruise, and good problems to have.

Or you could also try to switch to the earlier dining once you board! It might be a long shot, but could be a win-win all around!

That's exactly what we were thinking - It's not a bad problem to have.
I decided they can text me game updates on the wave phone during dinner :)

On behalf of my Duke Blue Devils, I want to thank you for bringing down the UNC Tarheels today. Oh, and no hard feelings about 1992?

So you are aware... We learned the hard way last September... So unless things have changed, you will be watching with no sound. We had a large group in the sparts bar to watch football. We were the only ones there and they couldn't get sound - except music for us. We even asked our concierge to make it happen, but they were unable to.

As for food, there are fast food options on the pool deck and room service. but the first night in the dining room is important as that is when the servers learn your likes, dislikes, wants and needs...

My recomendation is as follows:

One of you is going to have to sacrifice watching the first few minutes of the game. The menu for your restaurant will be posted outside the entrance to said restaurant prior to dinner. Write down what everyone wants. Have the unfortunate soul who is to miss the first few minutes of the game go to the restaurant when it opens, introduce him/herself to your wait staff. Tell them that you really look forward to dining with them on the cruise, but tonight you are going to miss dinner to watch a very important game. Give them your order (and maybe tip them some cash as well) and say that you'll be back in about a half hour to pick up everything. Odds are they'll have your dinner sent to the sports bar for you, but worse comes to worse during half time everyone schlepps over to the restaurant to pick up your togo meal and brings it back to Beat Street to enjoy while you watch the game.

I don't believe children are allowed in the clubs after 9:00 pm. Also, watching the game depends on the satellite coverage at any given time. Hopefully, they will have the game but it is not guaranteed.

We have the same problem too haha but it's Boise State vs Georgia football on sept 3rd and we will be in Barcelona!!!! I'm hoping that the renassince has ESPN and we will be watching at 12 midnight with the time chance!!!!:scared1:

Whatever! ;) From a bitter Tarheel fan, I am rolling my eyes at your problem! JUST KIDDING!

Congrats on the win! I hope everything works out. :cheer2:

Count us in for eight more UK fans cruising next week, four alumni and four wildcats-to-be. Not sure how we'll handle catching Saturday's game yet, maybe we'll just wait and worry about watching the cats win it all on MONDAY!

When we cruised the same time last year they showed the Final Four games on the Ariel view. So maybe there is another option for you to watch with sound.

Go Cats! I really love this team! I would be surprised if the game was not also shown on the big screen on top deck. Normally all big sporting events are shown there in the evening. Check it out and perhaps your entire family can watch the Cats win the National Championship together.

imho, unless you cruise multiple times per year, no sporting event is worth taking away the limited time you have to enjoy the activities on the ship.

Obviously you are not a Kentucky Wildcat. The Big Blue Nation is insane, I agree, but very few things come before our beloved Wildcats especially when it is the Final Four! My family loves Disney....we have been to WDW about 25 times, are DVC Members, and have taken six cruises on DCL with a 14 night transatlantic coming up in May. They are absolutely magical. The Kentucky Wildcats, however, always come first. I can remember having my dinner served quickly in Lumiere's so I could get to the the sports bar to watch just a normal game! This is the Final Four! Go Cats!!!
