Anyone know what the current rope drop procedure is at HS? I read a while back they were letting people n about 30 min early but being held at a rope. Just wondering if this is still what is happening.

They are letting people in about 15-30 min early but, they are being held at a rope.

Last Thursday we were let in a hour early to sign up for Jedi Training. We signed up and then were told to wait behind a line on the side walk. We waited at a bench and then about 8:45am (9am) opening they let everyone walk to where they wanted to go.

We were there from Sept 7 - 15th of this year. On 'normal' days there was the internal rope drop / slow walk On our morning EMH day (Saturday) it was the turnstile RD (that we really like).

Thanks everyone. I guess an early morning breakfast isn't beneficial anymore

So if you're at the tail end of the cattle herd heading to TSM, how long will the standby wait be?

15-50 minutes, depending on , well, EVERYTHING.

We were one of the first on TSM this past Wednesday. 9:02 when we got off of the ride and the wait was already at 45 minutes! Waited about 15 minutes to meet Buzz and Woody and then the wait was up to 65 minutes. I didn't check the time that they let us in the park, but we arrived at 8:15, I think they let us through at about 8:30ish and then held us at the rope a little while and did a slow walk to TSM. That was a crazy walk with people jostling for position, lots of stroller ramming! I held onto my 6 year old for dear life!

To further illustrate Robo's post, I was at RD/EMH earlier this month. Through turnstiles about 15 minutes early, slow walk behind rope. I walked quickly, but did not try to speed walk nor stay right at the front. I had a FP+ for 9:00. I was able to ride twice standby, then had to wait to use my FP+. So I rode twice within about 45 minutes. At that point, if I remember correctly, standby was 60 minutes. So my experience was not at all like swars.

There are just so many variables, go with a plan, but remain flexible!

So, if I have an ADR at H&V for 8:05, then get out of there about 8:45, will I be behind a lot of people at the internal rope? What about if you have a pre-opening ADR at Sci-Fi?

The "advantage" of an early ADR is very limited.
Unless you are there primarily to enjoy the meal (and not just to get a leg-up on regular gate guests,)
your plan is now diminished.

Sometimes guests are held at a restaurant venue until the ropes get dropped.
Sometimes guests are released after their meals to head to an attraction
(or, at least, a nearby attraction.)

Like everything at WDW, what happened yesterday, may not happen tomorrow...
or next week.
