Hi, I am taking everyone's advice and booking room only for our first visit rather than a package. I had thought that HRH would be out of our price range but it is closer than I thought, although still $100 to $300 more over our 3 night stay depending on type of room. For those who are familiar with both hotels, is the extra $$ worth it? We will have four people, me, dh, dd16 and ds13, and we will need a rollaway bed which the Universal tm told me would work pretty well in an HRH standard room but would be a very tight fit in RPR.

TIA!

For us..we love HRH and are willing to pay a little more than RPR to stay there. However...$100-$300 is a lot of money and I would save that money and stay at RPR!! RPR is beautiful, and I dont think the room at HRH is much bigger. Maybe 30-40 sq ft.

We have stayed at both, once at RPR and 4or 5 times at HRH. Personally I prefer the decor at RPR, to HRH. It's a beautiful hotel. Last trip we stayed there because we got a good rate, considerably less than HRH, and I wanted to try it. The only reason I didn't like it more than HRH is that it just seemed so much farther to the parks. Probably only about 5 minutes difference comparing the walkways, but also when you enter Citywalk from HRH you are practically at the gate of Universal Studios. When you walk from RPR you end up alongside Margaritaville, and still have to cross the bridge (potentially crowded) to IOA. Maybe at this point a 10 minute difference? We always walked from HRH, but ended up taking the boat from RPR. This can potentially add more time, if you have to wait for a boat.
That said, both hotels are great. If your teens are into music at all they may prefer the HRH, but with it being your first visit they won't really know the difference. What would I do? If the price difference was $100 I would go with HRH, if it was $300 I'd go with RPR.

Both hotels are great! We used to always stay at the Hard Rock, but now we really enjoy Royal Pacific and we especially love saving the money!!

If we are on a 3 or 4 day trip we might pool hope over to Hard Rock, just coz ya can... lol

The rollaway at RPR would take up all the room between the bed and the window, but it's tucked out of the way (well except for the window lol) Our family of 5 dont mind. We bring an airbed instead of using the rollway so it's easy to flip up during the day.

We just returned from RPR and LOVED it, the resort is gorgeous! We did visit HRH (as well as PBH) and loved it too. We're going to try HRH next time, mostly for the pool slide and...ice cream shop :rotfl:

You really can't go wrong with either choice. If you have older kids they'd probably prefer HRH, younger kids RPR and the sandy beach by the pool to build sand castles.

I would not pay $300 more for HRH (maybe PBH) but for $100 I would just to try something different....and again, that ice cream shop rocked.:rolleyes1

Thanks very much everyone, I decided to go with HRH, I think with older kids they will enjoy it and it will be different from other hotels that we have stayed at. Appreciate everyone's help!

You won't be disappointed with the HRH. That is where we stay on our yearly trips and our kids were in their teens when we started and have always loved the resort. Not sure if you got a discount on the room at all but we usually get a good discount with AAA. We have, in the past, had a roll away in a regular room at HRH and you won't have any trouble. You could probably put it between the bed and the window. We actually just put it in the entrance way and had not problem.
