Here is a summary of our universal trip:

Cast: Me 39, DH 41, DS 4.

Flight: Flew SW from BWI - They are now handing out kid packs with a coloring book, multicolor pencil and airline wings in it. My son loved this! Great flights as usual.

Arrived at MCO at 8:30 am. Received luggage quickly. Proceeded to National's Emerald Aisle. Picked a Pontiac G6 which my husband enjoyed driving. No line to get out.

Arrived at Hard Rock Hotel at 9:00 a.m. on 5/21. I had purchased through AAA South a Preferred Annual Pass for myself and Power Passes for my husband and son. I originally made an APH reservation for a club room but decided we would not spend the extra and changed it to a deluxe room for the rate of $199 the first night and $179.00 the last three nights. When we went up to the counter we had a very efficient, quick talking, reservationist who whenever I would start to ask a question she would cut me off and state she wasn't done yet and she needed to finish doing her job. Sooooo, my husband and I said okay. Well, turns out she says .... you have a concierge room booked at the rate of $199 for the first night and $179 for the last three nights and these are your privileges. If you hurry, you can go up to the lounge and have breakfast (great, we're starving - the cookies on Southwest didn't quite satisfy us). Well, who are we to argue. We shut up and said okay and proceeded up to the lounge after receiving our room keys for the park. Not quite sure what happened there - not sure if we were upgraded or if they forgot to change the room type with the new room rate but we were happy with the end result :) .

Our room was ready around 2:00 p.m. We were in Room 7069 which is right next door to the lounge. At first, I was a little worried about noise because my son tends to go to bed around 8:00 p.m. but it worked out terrific. We never heard any noise from the lounge and loved being able to pop over quickly and grab a bite. The concierge in the lounge were all very friendly. We loved having the bottled water and sodas available; the donuts were a little too tempting in the morning but hey it's vacation time!

We found housekeeping to be great with our room cleaned before we returned every afternoon and turndown always done while we were either at the pool or out at dinner. Loved the little turndown gifts. My son was thrilled with the smiley face bracelets, yellow bouncing balls with smiley faces, and hard rock tattoos. Loved all the toiletries as well - mouth wash, body wash, shampoo, cream rinse, face, body and hand soaps and needle and thread, etc. (my bathroom at home looks a little like the Hard Rock right now - couldn't resist bringing a few soaps home).

We loved the pool at the HRH and used it almost every day. We all loved the slide, especially my son. He loved the fact he could touch bottom in a lot of the pool, although at some points my husband and I felt like crabs crawling along the bottom after him.

We visited both parks - my son loves thrill rides: he says his favorites are all of them but judging by the number of times we rode them I would have to stay his favorites were: Spiderman, ET, Jimmy Neutron, MIB, Jurassic Park Water Ride, Flyers, Dudley Doo Wright Falls (Spelling?), Bilge Rats, and the Woody Woodpecker Rollercoaster (although to be honest he loved riding anything he was tall enough for and was disappointed he couldn't do Hulk or Mummy).

Food: Our favorites were Mythos and Finnegans. At Mythos I had the crispy greens salad with scallops, my husband had a chicken sandwich and my son had the children's steak (the salad and the steak were both fabulous) and the bread they serve beforehand is very good. At Finnegan's my husband and I both had the fish and chips (mouthwatering good - they make them from scratch there) and my son had a triple decker PB&J and a shirley temple with extra cherries (they took me seriously when I asked for an extra cherry or two (they gave my son 4 on a sword and 3 in the cup - he was in heaven). They also serve a great soda bread with apple butter.
We also ate at Hard Rock Cafe (good) and Margaritaville (just okay - I had the crabcakes which was probably a mistake since we are from Maryland and used to really good ones), my son's spagetti and my husband's meatloaf sandwich were pronounced good.

We also did the character breakfast at Confisco's with Spiderman, Cat in the Hat, and Thing 1 and Thing 2. We all loved this! We thought the food was great (scrambed eggs with cheese, peppers and onions, potatoes, bacon, sausage, waffles, red or plain pancakes (they had little cups you could put syrup in which my son loves to use for dipping) as well as fresh fruit, yogurt, and assorted muffins, croissants, and pastries. Milk, coffee, and soda were included in the price. Juice was not. We got the 15 percent discount here with the preferred annual pass as well as at Finnegans and Mythos, etc. Spiderman came over right away and spent a few minutes speaking with my son (my son's still talking about it) and came back again later to say hi again. We also saw the other characters as well. I saw spiderman and his assistant standing to the side at one point looking around the room to make sure he did not miss anyone (I loved seeing him perched on a chair in his POSE with an older woman and the husband chuckling and clicking away with his camera). My husband kept saying "I bet you like this character meal - Spiderman sure works out (I'll have to say I didn't complain). He really has the voice down. My son is used to mickey, etc. and kept saying for the next two days - Spiderman really talks mommy, he really talks.

We had a great time. It was a nice change for us since we usually do Disney (a lot) and wanted to try something different). We'll be back. Any questions, please feel free to ask.

sounds like you had a great trip. i have a couple questions, did you have reservations for the character breakfast? also did cat in the hat, and thing 1 and 2 come over to you for pics? thanks

Yes, we made reservations ahead of time for the character meal. Cat in the Hat hung out in the lobby for greetings and pics. Thing 1 and Thing 2 (mischevious as always) came to the tables together. We had a reservation for 9:00 a.m. and got there about 10 minutes early and were seated promptly.

thank you, we are heading to universal the end of august, and looking forward to the breakfast.

Hi, and welcome back. Glad you enjoyed your trip, the "discounted" concierge rooms were a nice bonus! We will be staying Club level at HRH in 2 weeks  . What was the food like in the lounge? Was there enough for breakfast or was just donuts, coffee & juice. I have seen some posts on this board saying the evening snacks are terrible. What did you think?

Thanks!!!!

I would have to say the food wasn't up to disney concierge standards but still good. The staff were very accomodating and always available to help. For breakfast they had 4 or 5 different types of donuts, 3 or 4 different types of muffins, bagels and some really nice breads with little jars of jellies, butter and cream cheese. They also had a large assortment of the cereals in those nice size containers you can add milk to. They also had a huge bowl of fresh fruit such as melons, pineapple, strawberries, blueberries, as well as fresh fruit in a bowl like apples, oranges, and bananas. They also had whole milk, skim milk, and half and half in large containers. They had decaf and regular coffee as well as apple juice and orange juice. Breakfast was available from 7:30 to 10:00 if I remember right.

From 5 to 7 they had appetizers such as one night mini hot dogs, large hot soft pretzels and a fresh vegetable tray, as well as cheese and crackers and rolls. Another night they had meatballs (which were very good) and a marinated vegetable platter with olives and such as well as crackers and cheese. One night they had chicken on skewers (that is the only night I didn't particularly care for).

All day they had bottled water and mini bottles of diet coke, coke and sprite available. They also had lemonade and coffee available during the day. From 5 to 7 they had bottled beers (around 4 or 5 different types) as well as red and white wines.

Dessert was 8:30 to 9:30 - one evening they had Purple Cow ice cream from Emack and Bolios (very good), another night it was fresh rice krispy treats, and another night huge fresh cookies. All nights they had bowls of oreos and chocolate chip cookies too. We really enjoyed coming back from dinner and grabbing a coffee and a little dessert to take to our room.

Concierge was more than happy to print our boarding passes for our return flight and always available to answer any questions.

Have a great time. We really enjoyed our stay; I'm sure you will too.

Thanks for the quick reply!!! Breakfast sounds great (love the fresh fruit) and the snacks don't sound bad either. I can't wait, this is our first time staying onsite at Universal so we our getting excited.

Enjoyed reading your report. Sounds like your family had a great time. I don't suppose you know if you can use the club lounge after check-out on the same day? We have a late flight out of Orlando. It would so nice to have a place to relax or have a little snack before heading out to the airport.

Not sure about using the lounge after check out. We did request a late check out and were granted 12 noon. We ended up leaving around 10:30 am anyway and doing last minute favorites at the parks and going over to downtown Disney for some toy shopping and lunch at the Rainforest Cafe. I know you have access to the fitness center if you want to use the pool the last day and then go in there and shower - the Beach Club at the pool looked popular, we didn't get a chance to try anything though. There really isn't anything out except for a bowl of fruit in the concierge lounge between 10 am and 5 pm for snacking.

Wow...you wrote a great trip report. You really hit several points I was concerned about. I have one question, though. Did the concierge make prior PS arrangements for you at Mythos and Finnegans or did you just walk up?

Thanks for the review!!

We are staying at the Hard Rock June 15 - 18. Can't wait.

A question....how big were the rooms on Club Level? What about the view?

Luvdzny....what are your dates? We might run into each other.

We just walked up to Mythos and Finnegans without a ps. We only waited a couple of minutes for Mythos and were seated right away at Finnegans.

We had a regular room size on club level. It was still plenty large enough for the 3 of us (bigger than Wilderness Lodge but smaller than Polynesian). We had a view of the front valet area but you could see the MIB wall with the stars lit up on it at night with shooting stars.

One more thing I didn't mention: the slide at the HRH had swim vests available in a bin at the top. Children over 36 inches and under 48 inches require one to go down the slide. There was always a nice variety of sizes.

pozey ~ We are only there for 2 nights 6/10 & 6/12 then it is off to the AKL, so I guess we will miss you. Enjoy your trip!!!

Hi Pozey! :wave2: We'll be be staying at HRH Jun 15-21. If you're at the pool in the late afternoons, you'll probably see us there... :flower:

Thanks Disneyfor3! :smooth:

Sherrilatte.....

We will also be taking some dips (literally and figuratively  :rotfl: ) in the pool in the afternoons.

I'll be the one with the really white legs :earseek: . My DW will be the one chasing my DD(2) all around the pool area  . My DS (9) will be swimming laps around everyone else (he's on the swim team here) And my DS (6) will have 1 tanned arm and one non-tanned arm - IF he gets his cast off before we leave :confused3

Can't Wait!! :bounce:

pozey- ROFL :rotfl2:

Disneyfor3- Looking forward to our trip in July even more now. Thanks for the report.

Thank you for the detailed report on the food looking forward to our stay at the end of June even more now :flower: :goodvibes

You can only access the 7th floor with a valid room key; there is a card reader in the elevator to use before you can press "7". If your key still worked after you checked out, or if you got on an elevator with someone else going up to 7, you could probably use the lounge before your flight.
