FYI:

I made 2 phone calls in 2 days and spoke with 2 different people at Universal vacations that guaranteed me that ONLY guests with pets stay on the 'pet' floor. They both told me that the FIRSt floor is the pet floor. So the guest that posted here that stayed on floor 5 and saw dogs.................HOUSTON, we have a problem!!

When we arrive in December, Im gonna make real sure we get non smoking AND non dogs!!!!!!! Anyone else run into pet problems while staying at HRH?

Well when I was there last week, we were on the 5th floor and I'm pretty sure I did see people with dogs on my floor. However I didn't encounter any problem because of the dogs and my room was in fine shape.

We too were on floor 5 last week and saw atleast a dozen humans with dogs!;)

We stayed earlier this year at HRH with our yellow lab and we were in room 5026 on the 5th floor with a view facing the pool. I thought we would be on the 1st floor, but was surprised to be on the 5th. And there is no way the pet floor is only for pets. A regular floor has about 100 rooms, so there is no way the entire 5th floor had 100 people with pets. I'd say there was about 10 people with dogs on our visit.

It's really not a problem, we had no accidents in the room and the dog never made a mess. I'm sure rooms have been trashed worse by humans. Yes, our dog barked when we first arrived, but people called to complain, and we stopped her from barking after management spoke with us.

Ask for a room on the 3rd, 4th, or 6th floor.

My husband and I stay at the Hard Rock at least three times a year and have been doing so ever since they first opened about 5 years ago. We always travel with our dog Dante - an american eskimo. We have stayed in every type of room and suite imagineable at the Hard Rock. Needless to say, we have stayed on every floor. It is not true that guests of the Hard Rock that decide to bring their furry companions stay only on the first floor. You will see dogs in the lobby, in the elevator, in the gift shop, by the pool, walking down the halls of your floor and even in the outside patio section of the Kitchen - which is a restaurant on the main floor of the Hard Rock. If you do not like dogs or are freightened of dogs my suggestion is that you should stay on Disney property. Good luck.

And the funny thing is.....I've been to HRH four times and have never seen a dog.

It was because of the hurricane. The hotel I was in had a pack of dogs.

Thanks for starting this topic.

Do they have "pet-free" rooms for people with allergies?

I would call and ask about pet free rooms for those with allergies. Or even if just afraid of dogs. It doesn't make sense that people who don't want to be in a room used by pets for any reason should have to stay at WDW. I would talk to Loews, from my experience they're very accomodating.

That's funny. I don't know how you could miss them. I used the elevators many times, and took the dog out the exit leading to the boat dock. There is a grass area surrounding the hotel where I walked her, that's the designated area.

I guess if you went down the elevators at certain times, and walked to the parks going thru the pool, you could miss them. I passed by other dogs many times, especially at the exit leading to the boat dock.

I think the number of dogs at the hotel will increase as people realize they can bring them. Other hotels in the area only accept small pets under 50 pounds.

I've been to the hard rock twice now and never saw a dog. guess it just depends/

We took our 4-legged, baby girl with us on our last trip to RPR in July. We were on the 4th floor. I'm pretty sure that they have no-pet rooms, because we had to wait until 4:35 for a pet room. Obviously there's not that many. We have a mini-pin, and she was no problem at all. We didn't get any complaints, but if we had it probably would have been because of the 2 teen boys. We were careful not to enter an elevator which was already occupied, and to avoid people when she was with us, although that was hard to do, since so may people wanted to play with her. :( I'm sure that anyone else would show you the same courtesy if you asked. I can see why some people have never seen pets, because there really isn't that many. We have stayed at all 3 resorts. We never encountered a pet at PBH. We saw 2 at HRH, on different days, and 4 other than ours at RPR. All but one of those was at the pet walk. By the way, Loew's Hotels have a special filtering system in their rooms, so if you were placed in a pet room, I doubt you'd notice. Our room at HRH last year was a pet room, even though we didn't have Molly at the time, and we never would have known if they didn't have all the pet info. in it.

Just 1 last thought: While I agree that there is no way that anyone should have to stay at WDW to avoid pets, we pet owners shouldn't be banned from WDW, because we have 1. My family went from 3 straight years of annual passes, and 5 or 6 trips a year to WDW to only 1 visit since we got Molly. The only option we have is FW in our RV, but it is becoming impossible to book FW at busier times of year. :(

Sorry for getting off topic, but since it was brought up, I wanted to mention my dissappointment in WDW, because I feel like we went from it being our home-away-from-home to being the black sheep of the family who is no longer welcome. :( I know they have kennels, but most people who take their pets along do so because they don't want to leave them at home in a kennel. Well anyway, thanks for letting me share my sadness, and have a great trip.

glawgirl-
Welcome to the Dis. Since you go to HRH so often you are probably a wealth of knowledge. I hope you keep posting. BTW- WE haven't taken our dog to a Universal Resort yet but we have to WDW and it was a pain!

Hi MotherFletcher - thank you for the warm welcome. My husband and I love Universal Studios and the Disney parks. We go there a lot because we live in Miami Beach, Fl so it's not a long drive. If I can help out with any questions or info need I would be happy to help.

You def. should try to take your pet to stay with you at the Lowes properties. They give you this little welcome bag with a place mat, doggie bowls and doggie cookies. Also, most of the staff loves dogs, especially the staff at the concierge so your dog will get lots of love and attention.

Sorry I started this long thread, but between smoking and dogs, I would have a miserable time. I will inquire about pet free rooms.....................GOD WILLING!!!

:)

Nothing to be sorry, we're all here to answer questions and enjoy it.

It's actually a good idea to call ahead, because they probably assign your room number in advance.

If you have a pool view room, ask for a room on the east side, which would be room number 3080. Those rooms face the park. A room like 3026 would put you at the far end of the west hallway with a limited view of IOA. 3rd floor might be your best bet, because the ride up and down the elevator would be shorter with less stops. But if you want to be way up high, ask for a room on the 6th floor.

I think some have commented that the best rooms are in the area of 6090. If you don't have pool view, that side of the hotel would get you a view of the boat dock and water way.
