Can anyone help me with a 2 part question about the beds at the value resorts and Hoyer type lifts (lifts that go under the bed).

This is the first year that we will require a lift for transfers. We will again be staying at the All Star Sports Rosort in a handicapped room. Will a hoyer type lift work with the bed in that room?

Also, has anyone rented a hoyer type lift while staying on Disney property? Will the company deliver and pick-up? And do you have a ?guess? at the rental cost for a week.

TIA!!!

You might want to checks Posts #2 and #7 of the disABILITIES FAQ for some help. Post 2 lists some off site full service medical equipmeent companies and post 7 discusses some special equipment available from WDW. It seems that you need a room where the lift can get under the bed so talking to Special Reservations may help, as well as being able to rent a lift from off-site.

Thank You. We have a lift rented from a local medical supply company at a very reasonalble rate, but they were unable to answer my question as to the height of the bed (adequate clearance for the hoyer lift legs) because they did not know if the beds had changed since the remodel was completed. I know they used to sit on a wooden base that was secured onto the floor and was immovable.

You should be able to get an answer to that question by calling Special Reservations, as Cheshire Figment suggested. The phone number is in the disABILITIES FAQs thread.

When you call you might want to ask about the clearence under the bed at the resort you are looking to book, because the height on lifts vary model to model and company to company (Invacare to Hoyer for example), just in case you can't get the exact model you typically use.

A few years ago and we stayed at one of the All Stars. I seem to remember the beds going all the way to the floor. I'm not sure about that but I'd encourage you to call the resort and ask them. I googled "picture all star movie room" to get the following. I remember our room being dark and rather small.

calling the resort actually doesn't connect you to the resort - you are connected to a call center.
You should be able to get an answer from Special Reservations.

We just returned from a night at ASSports in a fully accessible, roll-in shower room. The bed was up on wooden blocks and there was space underneath for a hoyer lift. I'm not sure if this is standard, but it would definitely work and you can request the same.---Kathy

We too recently stayed one night in a roll in shower room at All Star Music in the Jazz section. I didn't use our lift that night (travel lift that was packed & it was just one night, used a transfer board instead) but did check under the bed to see if I could use it. There was space & it did look like it would work. We found that room great for our needs. It was pretty large for a value room & laid out perfectly for us!
