How's the weather in Nassau and on Castaway Cay in Early January

If there is a nasty cold front then it could be unbearable.

Only Mother Nature knows for sure!

Two years ago it was Heavenly, last January, well let's just say unusually chilly!

Let's to Pixie Dust that this coming January we get the HOT, HOT, HOT Weather!

We did the 1/5/03 cruise and were able to sit out by the pool at the Atlantis for the day and swim in the pools all day long. It wasn't a sunny day out, but it was doable. Castaway Cay was alittle chillly and we weren't able to swim, but people did. Keep in mind that we live in naples, florida, so I"m used to the sun and that's probably why it felt colder to us!

Scratch is right, it's iffy. We cruised early january the last two years. In 2002 the weather was gorgeous so we were taken by surprised when it was chilly in 2003. By chilly I mean upper 60's/low 70's and breezy (a little chilly for it to be really great for the beach), though DH said that the water was pretty warm, it was just cool when you got out (I didn't go in because I was fighting a cold). Definately warm enough to be outside and enjoy the day though, I just consider prime "beach" weather to be a little warmer.

THAT'S THE CRUISE WE WERE ON!!! :) We didn't go in the water at all....to chilly for me. But then again, I wear sweaters in the summer.

We've been in February and late December. Both times felt awfully good to us hardy New Englanders. The water was cool but certainly warm enough to swim, but again this depends on your tolerance. When we first got on the ship last year it was unseasonably cool for Florida but our kids consider it a sin to be in Florida and not swim! You should have seen the people bundled up in their winter coats pointing at my two daughters going down the Mickey slide!

OK, we'll add to the database! :)

We cruised in January 2000 and 2001. In January 2000, the weather was a bit cool in Nassau (high 60s?) but nicer in Castaway Cay (low 80s). The water temperature was borderline in Castaway Cay (some people were swimming). We didn't do any beach activities in Nassau that year.

In January 2001, the water temperature at Castaway Cay was again borderline, but it was cool and gusty outside (mid-60s). Our Nassau day was exceptional (mid-80s), but the crew indicated that it was first time in two months the weather had been so nice. The water temperature was also great. We spent the day at Blue Lagoon.

We are doing the 7 night cruise next month. I am bringing wet suits for my wife and I to Castaway Cay. They are full length, although a shorty would probably make you comfortable enough. With a full-size wet suit, it can be in the 50s and windy and I'll be warm.

Have fun! :)

We cruised in January last year and while the first days were Wonderful, our day at CC was chilly. The first couple of days the kids were able to play in the pool for most of the day and it was still beautiful at night. The weather in Nassau was great too. It was actually hot walking around there. However at CC, my DH did snorkel, and my kids went into the water (mainly to get their feet wet or get buckets of water), but they did alot more playing on the beach. It got cooler as the day went and by the end of the day (not wanting our day to end) I was wrapped in my towel to stay warm. When we arrived back in Florida, it was about 35 degrees and we were freezing (it just gave us a taste of reality before we flew back to Chicago that afternoon). That was the start of one of their coldest Januarys (or so I was told). But overall, I would cruise again in January and take my chances with the weather.

Cruisin' in cold weather is better than dredging through the slush, snow & below zero wind chill factor to get to work any day!!
