Hows the Steak at Sci-fi?

My DDs love to be treated to a steak on vacation. We aren't doing a lot of sit down lunches or dinners in our quick 4 days in the parks trip... Sci-Fi is one option that serves steak. Should I encourage them to go for it, or pass on steak here?

TIA

I would say the steak is pretty eh. Maybe it is because I'm use to really good steak but a place that is more a burger/sandwich place is not really somewhere I would encourage someone to get a steak if they enjoy being treated to a steak.

I always felt like the steak is $32 because it is a steak and so they can charge that not that it is a steak that justifies a 32 price tag.

Not the best value there by any stretch. If you're on the DDP and want to maximize the value then go for it, but if paying OOP you'll do better with a sandwich or burger.

Thanks! We're not on the DDP, so I'll encourage them to chose something else

We eat at Sci-Fi a lot, so I've had the steak several times. It's tough for me to recall every one of them, but I've had more good ones than bad ones, by far. When it's not great, it has always been too done. I have more issues with the garlic mashed potatoes, which are never garlicky enough. The harder part to decide is if it's worth $32.

I don't mind spending that (once or twice during vacation) if they'll eat the steak - do you know if you can substitute the mashed potatoes for fries? Or baked potatoe?

You're at the movies sitting in a parked car.

Do you think a $30+/steak that arrives in a plastic basket and which you are going to eat in a dark room is going to be a food highlight for your vacation?

My advice if you really want a good steak, and since you are paying out-of-pocket, go to Shula's and split a big steak. The cost will be about $30/person.....15 minute walk from Hollywood Studios....Chocolate Souffle for dessert (trust me).

I did a review of this in the dining review linked in my signature. In short, it is a tasty lunch but it is not a $32 steak. That said, if you are not planning to go to a better sit down and they want steak, why not? I try not to fuss too much over overpaying at Disney... we were on the DDP and would probably make another choice if paying OOP but if I really felt like having the steak that day I'd pay it.

The mashed potatoes were some other kind of potato when I was there. It was just ok. I would ask for more onion rings instead. They happily substituted fries for the veg and I split the whole thing with my son - we each had half the steak and our own potato side.

I love the atmosphere in here. My son got spoiled by the $49 filet at california grill and thought it was the best steak ever, however he was just fine eating other steaks later in the trip. I think if they want it and you don't care about paying $32 for what is probably a $15 steak then go for it :) They will probably enjoy it. Like at any disney restaurant though, if you hit a bad day it could be bad. My awful meal was Narcoossees where the $49 steak was served raw not once but twice. It happens everywhere.

with shakes and an appetizer this makes a decent meal to share.

Oh and it is served on a real plate, not a picnic basket.

We try to eat there several times a year.
We love it.
Had steak once because we were on DDP, never again.
Stick to the basics, my go to is the reuben.

Thanks everyone - appreciating the input. Definitely going to let the girls read this and make their decision.
We've never eaten at Sci-Fi, DHS is my favorite park (and DD10s), and we're big fans of Mama Melrose (we tend to repeat visit what we know we like), but I really wanted to try something new. This trip is shorter than our normal WDW trips as our primary reason for traveling is DD10's gym meet at ESPN Zone.
We are paying out of pocket, I booked 2 advantageous PPO breakfast ADRs (H&V and Garden Grill), other than Sci-Fi we are planning on counter service. We are hitting one park per day Thurs-Sun.
Shula's is a good suggestion, and if I didn't have such a desire to finally try Sci-Fi (for the experience) and if this was more of a normal week long trip, I'd probably opt for a dinner at Shula's!

Sci Fi is an awesome experience. We didn't care much for their steak but their burgers and fries were solidly good. I ate there OOP last September and enjoyed the burger :) Price is very reasonable for a Disney TS.

Sci if steak was no worse or better than any other 1 credit place , same strip steak prepared the same way served in a different setting . I would say it was as good , similar in quality to Be Our Guest and Coral Reef. I think people see the other things on the menu and general Ambiance and it colors their opinion on this, just my opinion

I had the steak a few weeks ago and thought that it was very tasty. I had one on the same trip at Rainforest that was not great at all. I would order the steak again at Sci Fi, especially if on the dining plan!

Well as you can tell by my name the Sci Fi dine in is my favorite restaurant. But this is 90% because of the theme & atmosphere. I've never been brave enough to try the steak, I figured it would not be great. We ate there this past January, and my wife said her burger was the best she had all trip. I had my usual Reuben, the cucumber salad (delicious) & an ice cold real coke. I don't know if it was because of where I was, that I was particularly hungry or that the food was much better than usual, but it was great. In past trips I would honestly rate the food as good, not great. But it seemed much better this trip than previous visits. I would definitely recommend going to the Sci Fi as the theming is unique. It combines drive ins (an under rated bit of Americana), bad B-movies, and food (adult beverages), some of my all time favorite things.

This is the same experience I had. Steak at both Sci Fi and Rainforest Cafe. Sci Fi's steak was way better than Rainforest Cafe.

I've had it twice and it was great both times. It was way better than the one at CRT by far.
