How's the payment test going at AKL?

Staying at AKL right now and hadn’t even noticed. I haven’t tried to pay with cash at all but I did break a $20 at the gift shop this morning.

Sounds like a typical test at Disney to me. LOL
I said from the get-go that they'd have a difficult time doing this for dining guests only. Resort guests sure, that's easier. Dining only, way hard. I mean, what about someone who just goes in to Mara? They never made an ADR and they never get a notice.

You reminded me of the first time we went to AKL...we were at AK and we decided in the morning to hop over to AKL to eat instead of eating in the park, just because we were thinking about staying there on our next trip. We ended up getting a same-day ADR at Sanaa, but if we hadn't, we probably would have tried Mara because we really wanted to check out the resort! Anyway, we probably had a credit card, but we might not have known in advance that we needed it to pay!

This is sort of why I thought it totally odd that they picked AKL to run this test. Out of all the resorts it's got to be high on the list of ones that are visited by "outsiders" or non-overnight guests and non-dining guests. So many come to see the animals. It probably isn't all that unusual for them to try out Mara too

Exactly - I agree! It's so unique with the animals, it's just a cool resort to visit. Like I said, we were considering it for our next trip, so we figured we'd bus over there and then just take a cab back to our resort. Once we hung out for a bit, we knew that was our next resort to try! And we're going back in April - I will make sure to give a deposit for my MB charging at check-in, lol!

We ate at boma last week. Paid with magic band but my cash tip was readily accepted.

So we just checked out of AKL, and while we didn’t personally use cash while there, we still saw people using it which I thought was weird. It doesn’t seem like they’re all in with the idea despite several reminders we got about the policy.

Well, that wouldn't matter any way. They have stated that nothing will change about tips. Cash will still be accepted for any tips, even if they were following the policy they established.

An inconsistent policy implementation at WDW? I'm shocked! :rotfl2:
LOL... well, I just have a hard time envisioning them refusing a guest just because that guest has cash. I mean, can you see it now? Guest walks in, wants to buy something at gift store or eat at a restaurant and Disney says, sorry, we can't serve you, you have CASH! You will have to go somewhere else. I mean, turning away a customer, paying customer, is utterly ridiculous. I'm guessing that maybe whoever thought this up has realize just how impossible it's going to be to implement.

Yeah the only places I have seen go really cashless are places where it kind of makes sense to not want to bother handling money and where nothing is really needed to be bought anyway. Example SW airlines comes to mind. I mean literally the only thing you can buy on the plane is little bottles of alcohol anyway. So its not a big deal. But I can't see it working at a hotel.
