How's the partial federal government shutdown affecting you?

Don’t know why you will bring this up in this thread. Are you trying to put down tsa employees or everyone here that just has a high school diploma?
I bring it up because I don't think a lot of folks realize how many people are in job with stricter requirements and lower pay. And the 2 people I know who work for TSA took those jobs because they were a financial step up.

As others have pointed out, those salaries are the mean. Aside from that, why do you have a problem with them getting paid well. Those that worked in factories up until the 80s had no more than a high school education and were trained on the job. They were given a very good living wage. So should those without college degrees not have jobs that "were meant to be long term and have a family"?
.
I have no problem with getting paid well. My issue is people thinking that those numbers are not being paid well.

kdonnel is wrong about workers not yet missing a paycheck until the 11th. My husband works for Customs and Border Protection. Their first missed paycheck was January 1st. He also is Coast Guard Reserve. Yes that’s right - we’ve been hit twice - two jobs, no pay. He shows up for work every night protecting our borders because he is considered essential.
I think more people need to say “thank you” to those affected by the shut down. Those working everyday without a paycheck are dedicated individuals who take service to their country very seriously. My husband and his coworkers know what’s at stake at our borders if they don’t show up. So they do and do so proudly. Not happily but proudly.

If you are going to post “facts” about something that you know nothing about please at least make sure they are true. And my advice? Always choose compassion over being judgmental. You never know what burdens other people are carrying.

Thank your DH, I appreciate him and his coworkers keeping us safe. I appreciate everyone doing what they need/should/have to do for the greater good.

I'm sorry for the people struggling, and even sorrier if they don't have families to help them out.

In my family if one of us is struggling we will all pitch in to help. It's sad that more people don't have a support system to help them when they need it.

In my experience, those that brag about being prepared and look down on those not prepared, are usually lying or deluding themselves.

I think it is like the people who automatically blame the parent when something bad happens to a child. It can't possibly just be random, or an accident or an unfortunate set of events. Somebody has to be at fault and the situation couldn't possibly happen to their family because they are better parents. It seems to be some form a denial that bad things happen to good people doing their best.

Hoping the shut down ends soon. Thank you husband for his hard work. Judgmental people make my heart hurt. As if any of us can control life.

This is what makes me the maddest about the whole thing. The coast guard not getting paid.

I mean seriously? This whole stupid thing is about exactly what your husband is protecting! So we don’t pay them. Makes no sense to me.

But thank you to you and your husband for his service.

Wow the drama is high on this one.
We've got it all, the cold and heartless who believe they are morally superior because they believe in personal responsibility and the sanctimonious high horse riders who disagree with them.

Try just those of us who live in reality. I think you'd realize that sometimes bad events overwhelm the most responsible among us.

I'm not the poster that claimed everyone should be prepared, I am the poster that claimed everyone should prepare the best they can.
That is reality, the way this country is divided we can probably expect more of these shutdowns in the next 2 years. Then hopefully people will wise up and vote to get rid of those bitter fools in Congress who only care about not giving in to the other side (and there is enough of them to go around on both sides of the aisle).
I certainly have compassion for those effected that have no contingency plan for money, they didn't cause this and the people that did don't ever have to worry about bills piling up because they aren't getting a paycheck. That isn't right, those people should be the first ones on the list not getting paid.
My father worked for the Feds for 50 years, they get no love from me when they decide to use people's livelihood as a bargaining chip.

Oh and sorry you didn't get the sarcasm in my post. I can laugh at myself to lighten things up, more people should try it.

Nah, this poster clearly has "personal responsibility" and is therefore impervious to bad stuff happening.

Yes I do and proud of that. I don't expect anyone else to take care of me.
What a sad world when having it and thinking others should too is looked down upon.

The poster was just kidding, y'all. Totally didn't mean to sound all sanctimonious or anything. With that personal responsibility reference and everything.

Who said anything about looking down on it? I think it's a sad world when people lift themselves up by looking down on people they deem irresponsible without having a clue what their circumstances are. It's all in the perspective, I guess.

Um yes that post the pp quoted was sarcasm.
Everything else I have said in this thread isn't.
Hope that helps clear things up for you.

I don’t either. Never have. I have always done it myself, until I couldn’t. But then I worked out of it and was independent again.

This is t about anyone expecting anyone to take care of them. This is about people that have jobs which IS part of personal responsibility and are either not getting paid to work or not getting to work. Very different from expecting someone to take care of them.

NONE of us would have money to take care of ourselves without jobs.
