How's the construction around New Haven, CT. area on I-95 lately?

Heading up to Vermont next week. We travel there a couple of times a year, and our route from NJ we've taken is I-684 to I-84, picking up I-91 in Hartford.

It's always been more of a direct drive (and quicker) in the past to take I-95 right on up, but we've been leery of doing so with the on going New Haven project, and hoping things are moving along.

I didn't see much current info. on Ct's DOT site, so hopefully someone from the area can help:)

Thanks,
Mark

I can't think of to much construction going on in NH, some in East haven but not in NH.

That said there is a bunch of construction in the Bridgeport area. Could be a problem during rush hour, otherwise its ok.

Thanks, Joe

Rather than saying New Haven, I should have said East Haven area (around exit 48 on I-95) where the major construction was (or still is).

Thanks again,
Mark

East Haven can be bad and back up into NH...getting there though. If you go off-peak should be no problem.

I drove to/from NYC just before Xmas and the speed restrictions on I-95 just north of Fairfield were still in place and enforced where the bridge burned last year and a temporary structure is in place. The construction further up by New Haven before the I-91 split is mostly dormant now for the winter.

The Merritt Parkway (America's autobahn :D) is still the best choice except for the 4-7 PM afternoon rush from exit 42 to 52 (Stamford to Bridgeport).

LOL...We've taken that route a few times and know what you mean. Very nice and scenic drive all in all.

We go to VT often on the weekends and yes, like everyone is saying there can be a bottleneck (especially at rush hour) where 91 and 95 converge in New Haven. To me most of 95 in CT (Stmfrd, Bpt) is a nightmare. Once you get on 91 all you have to contend with are the slowdowns in Hartford and Springfield. Have a great weekend, looks like fresh powder....Maggie
