How's August?

We currently have two trips planned for mid May (southern Cali and DL), and a wedding in LA in Early Sept (northern Cali and wedding).

However now I'm thinking let's get rid of the May trip and do DL in August instead.... It's the last week Aug 29-sept 1, would probably do Disneyland 3 days.... Are the crowds ok then? Or am I going to be annoyed I didn't go in May.

I don't think there is going to be a lot of difference between mid May and that very last week in August for crowds - Disneyland is going to be busy no matter when you go now - so I'd pick which is better from all other factors.

I think most of the local schools are back in session by the end of August. Weekdays should be pretty decent crowd wise early in the day. We have done August a lot and have found crowds to go down quite a bit later in the month. Later in the day and weekends expect the crowds to pick back up, check block out dates.

late August will be hotter but there should be less rides down (HM will be one, though). The crowds the week before labor day and usually pretty light. mid-May may have rides down for refurb before the summer season starts

In late-August there is the potential that Haunted Mansion will be closed. They have to close it 18-days before the start of HalloweenTime for the installation of the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay, so the closure usually starts in mid-to-late August. You might also notice an uptick in crowds towards the Wed/Thu of the trip as the Disneyland Half Marathon participants start to arrive (the event starts on Sep 1).

Thanks for the heads-up. My trip is already booked and I didn't know that HM may be closed. I'll be very sad if it's closed when we go (week of August 15th).

You should be fine with the week of the 15th. It probably wont close until the 28th or maybe the 21st at the earliest.

Looks like will miss being able to see HM as well since we will be there the last week of August. Sad, its been so long since I have seen it in its original state and not the halloween overlay.

There might be an uptick in crowds the end of August due to the 60th celebration ending early September. Also, if you’re interested in staying onsite, keep an eye on rates. I’ve seen pretty good mid-week rates those last few weeks of August.
