Howard Stern's comments about "Precious" star Gabourey Sidibe

yeah, I heard it on a morning show this morning. Those were his and Robin's exact words

I don't doubt those were his words. My point is there are a lot of opinions from people that don't even listen , that didn't even hear it. Saying the word Howard Stern is like lighting a match and I can tell you, from speaking to others, that a huge number of people make opinions on him based on what they have heard he says, or what others have said, or half-stories taken out of context, not by really listening, for a period of time and then making an opinion.

Grant you, you may not like him and still have the same opinion, but at least you made it on your own and not based on other people's spin.

Again, Im not disputing that....nor did I say you didnt hear that... In fact, I heard it myself. And btw, thats a 4 minute clip out of a much longer segment.

He says stuff like this to shock us all and get us talking about him and yet its discouraging that anyone would actually tune in to him, advertise during his show and run his broadcasts.

What he said about this actress is sadly not as bad as comments he made following the murder of Tejano singer Selena and the sicko sex comments following the Columbine school shooting. Here is a quote from him he made ONE DAY after Columbine:

April 21, 1999, the day after the Columbine High School massacre; commenting on the mass murders, Stern said on his show, 'There were some really good-looking girls running with their hands over their heads. Did those kids try to have sex with any of those good-looking girls? They didn't even do that? At least if you're going to kill yourself and kill the kids, why wouldn't you have some sex? If I was going to kill some people, I'd take them out with sex.'

Not all of the kids who had been killed that day had even been taken out of the school yet when he said that. Imagine how their families must have felt to know that somewhere some puke moron with a microphone would say such a thing. So why should his latest surprise us one bit. As for his sidekick Robin, she is an afront to all women, all humanity, just as he is. And she makes a lot of money to do just that as does he.

So this latest comment is right about what I'd expect from him. He's disgusting but he has an audience based on fans and on people like us that talk about him which is just what he wants.

.

Not the biggest fan of Robin, but I disagree. She's a strong woman who has oversome a lot! She's done it without playing victim, without using the race card or the female minority card. She just tends to hold people to the same standards. She's a good example of a woman who has picked herself up from by her bootstraps and become successful on her own merits.

Puke. I detest him.

You know, I doubt his words were too hurtful to her. I'm sure she's heard it and worse before. I seriously doubt she didn't imagine what would be said about her size in Hollywood. She's a smart girl and she's not blind.

Doesn't excuse what he said. He's a gross, ugly, pig.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree. I don't care what she's been through, there are ways for women to pick themselves up without associating with the very type of person who makes women seem like sexual beings and only sexual beings.

If she'd harness her talent and intelligence into something else, she'd probably do just as well. Without the guilt by association.

Anyone else see the irony in calling him names?

Nope. Not when it's more of a "how do YOU like it?" type of thing than a "let's pick on her cuz she's fat" type of thing. For me, anyway; YMMV.

I guess I could have summed it all up by saying "Mean People Suck", like my sister's bumper sticker.

And those who have done so, feel free to keep rolling your eyes ; it doesn't make talking about others' "shortcomings" any more okay.

Ill agree to disagree as well. I guess its because I don't see Stern or Robin as exploiting women. I see these women exploiting themselves. The only ones that make them look like only as sexual beings is them.

To some extent I agree with you. Years ago in a college class, the professor played a clip of him messing with women's breasts. These women were all there in his studio and he's like manhandling these women and it was just amazing how matter of fact he was and how gross his comments were. The professor was all up in arms about how he vicitimizes women. I was like "these women show up, in his studio, take off their clothes and exploit themselves". My A went down to a C shortly thereafter!

But then he says other things, like the quote I gave above about Columbine. He says "they should take them out with sex". Now me personally, I take that to mean they (the two gunmen) should have raped those girls before they killed them. Or raped them to death. I mean is he suggesting the female students would willingly have sex with two crazed gunmen before they got shot? Sorry to be so blunt, but how else can one take that comment? In this case, there is no woman putting herself in the limelight to be exploited. Just dead and terroized victims being exploited by him.

As for his comments about this actress, he implies quite openly that this woman is so fat she'll never get another acting job. Which to me says that as far as he's concerned, the only reason any woman in Hollywood works is because she's thin and sexy. That one may be harder for me to make my point on, but to me, his comments reek of sexist views held by him. And if Robin didn't say, "hey she may get another job she's very talented" then she's not doing too well with sticking up for another woman. JMHO.

Some shock jocks say the darndest things and you (as in any of us) find ourselves laughing in spite of our "oh how can he say that". Or we think to ourselves "I'd never say that but I have to admit its true". However, some of Stern's comments (and the fact Robin sits there and chortles along with him), many of his comments, go so out of the realm of anything funny, its just hard for me to believe that either one of them have any sense of decency or humanity.

I did wonder (not sure if anyone noticed this) but I noted where she was sitting at the Oscars. She was sitting all the way to the right of the stage allllll the way in a corner. I've never seen an nominee sitting in a spot like that. Made me wonder if it had to do with her weight.

I noticed that as well. She also seemed to be sitting comfortably.

I applaud the Oscars for accomodating her.

Yes, that is exactly what I said.

So if we decide that it is a fact that you are ugly, then we have the right to treat you badly?

Not saying you are ugly, just trying to make sure I understand what you are saying.

the 'nappy headed '%$" comment he made about the womens basketball team didn't clue you in on what type of guy he is?

Oh...okay...only a woman can make herself sexually exploited. Let us have all laws revoked on rape and such, because it is the woman's fault.:headache:

Wrong "shockjock". That was Don Imus. Similar types though :)

Of course his comments are extreme, but the girl looks mega-unhealthy and kind of gross. Sorry, but she need to lose a lot of weight unless she wants to be type-cast as the morbidly obese, sensitive girl in a bunch of crappy Tyler Perry movies for the rest of her acting career.

I haven't seen the movie, but I agree that the girl has to lose some weight. She is very unhealthy and honestly, her roles are going to be typecasting. He is a jerk, but he's funny. I'm not going to lie. And did he say what everyone was thinking? Most likely, however, he didn't say it very kindly.

FWIW, I'm overweight as well so I'm not picking on the fat girl.

The :rolleyes:indicated sarcasm. I did not mean, nor did I infer, what that PP read into it. That is waht that comment meant.

Besides, ugliness is subjective. ;)
