How Young is to Young?

I am wondering what everyone thinks would be to young to bring a child. Is 1 year the earliest you would take a child or maybe 3 months? Has anyone take a newborn (2-5 weeks old) and how did that turn out?

We took a 5 month old last year and it worked wonderfully for us. That being said we are not comandoes so we don't mind taking the parks slow. DS had fun and we had fun. I maybe taking the new one at 8 weeks old and I figure it should work out fine, since at that age they are so portable, just stick them in a sling and away you go. I'm not sure I would take a baby under 6 to 8 weeks old though, since there are a ton of people at Disney at all times of the year.

I see no problem taking a baby 3+ months to Disney and I really won't have a problem taking an 8 week old either, though I haven't taken a baby under 5 months yet.

We are going this month and our newest addition to our family will about 11 weeks old. I suppose it is up to each person, however the Dr. suggested to us not to take our baby anywhere that other children may be for the first month. We also asked him about flying and he said that its not the cabin pre ssure or anything of that nature but basically planes were full of germs and to wait as close to 3 months to fly to give them time to build their immune system up. I'd say younger than 3-4 months would be too young, as there's a lot of sunshine (and the nasty UVA and UVB rays that go with it) and you're not supposed to put sunscreen on children younger than 3-4 months, right? I'd also be concerned about the lack of complete vaccinations, as WDW is an international vacation destination, and not everyone comes into this country (or even in this country) fully vaccinated.

I would definitely wait till the baby is at least 2mos.they have no immune system, and there are too many people with too many germs.

The first time we took our DS he was just under 3 months old (he his his 3 mo at EPCOT actually). We just didn't go earlier b/c of school. Our first big trip away from home with him was when he was 7 wks old, we took him down to the smoky mountains for a long weekend. That was our "test trip" to see if we could manage all the new baby related things that we would need.

personally i have not taken any of our children before the age of 2 1/2 months. each kid has been left at some point with a grandparent and some kids more than once.
bringing an infant is just not something i could do.

I think it depends on what time of year you go. We just got back yesterday and it was sweltering hot there and humid. I felt bad for the tiny babies and toddlers, including mine! It just seemed cruel to have them out in the heat. Luckily my parents were with us and my mom was able to hang out at the baby station at AK for a long time and cool off. FTR, the station at AK was the bomb! It was huge and had private rooms to nurse and a big play room with tv. The one at HS was tiny, and we didn't use any at MK.

So, i wouldn't take a young baby in this heat, just my 2 cents

My DS was 10 months the first time. We did take my other son camping at 6 weeks though. I see nothing wrong with it as long as they are healthy and it is not scorching hot!!!

We went last year when our baby was just about 3 months and it was the best trip, ever!! The baby centers were a huge help....for feedings, changings and some quiet time. He rode lots of rides with me and did great sleeping in his stroller and the baby bjorn, too. It was sooo easy for us!! Even with us keeping up with a 2&4 year old. Go for it....it was so much fun!!!

Personally, I wouldn't consider taking a child under 6 months for 2 reasons already touched on by prior posters - baby's immature immune system coming in contact with so many other people from all over the globe, and the heat/sun.

Both my daughters went for the first time when they were 4 months old. Very easy trip. Napped in stroller most of the time.. I agree with others 2-5 weeks their immune system is very very weak...and there are an awful lot of people at wdw. The time of year is important too because they aren't able to regulate their body temp well.

When I was pregnant with my son (now 4) my sister and mother took dear daughter to Disneyland. (I can't go when pregnant cuz i can't stay off the rides and we play too hard at disney). While on this trip, DD got to go on rides she had previously been too short for. DH and I were SO jealous we couldn't wait to go. So 3 weeks after DS was born, we drove from Vegas down to Disneyland. We loved that trip, just remember to take it easy. As for the immune system issue...i didn't let anyone else touch him or get close enough to breathe on him. i used LOTS of hand sanitizer for myself and family members before they could touch him. We love the baby centers too. But use your intuition, it is more reliable than anyone's opinion.

Now our trip to wdw in 10 days, that I'm worried about. My youngest DS is going to turn 1 on the trip. He would lick the ground if I let him!

Thank you to everyone for the input. A lot of what has been said are the same thoughts that have been going through my mind.

My exact situation will be having a 5-7 week old for a 2 night, 1 day trip to WDW the first week of Dec. This is not as busy as many other times of the year, nor is it as hot. Also the Grandparents will be there along with her Uncle, Aunt and 14 month old cousin.

With the extra help we would have, being there at a slower/cooler time of the year, and only being there for 2 nights we are hoping to be able to pull this off. It will be my Nephew's first trip to WDW, and it would be very special if we were able to make it our daughter's first trip as well. But we do have our concerns.

We took our DS when he was 12 weeks old, and it was December but it was mild; I did keep him in light pants and he stayed shaded in his stroller because our pediatrician recommended that he not use sunblock. We took him again just before he turned 5 months and it was a much better trip. My DH thinks that our for our first trip, DS was too young because he did end up with a tummy bug that resulted in he and I flying home a day early...
Anyway, I think early December would be a good time for you to go because it's usually not that hot...I think our pediatrician said we could take him in the pool too, if we wanted (which we didn't because it was cool at night and we weren't going to go to the pool during the day).

If you're going to do it, you may want to make sure to get cancellation insurance. With DD (we took her at 3.5 months) I could totally have handled WDW at 5 weeks.
With DS I was barely able to walk to the bathroom without help at 5 weeks.
It's a tough call, but if it's the only time that works and you really want to do it!

We are going with our 13 month old DD and 8 month old nephew. I think it will go great!
