My 3 year old and 5 year old LOVED Goofy's Barnstormer. I stayed with the baby while DH & friend took them on. The baby will be 21 months on our next trip and I'm sure she'll make the 35" height requirement and is fearless. I think she'd love it but I'm still thinking she's too young. How old were your children for their first ride?

Hi, Pliko buddy :)

My DS #2 (who is also fearless) rode it at 24 months and LOVED it.

Since you can see the ride well from outside, maybe you can show her first and let her decide?? The good news--if she hates it, it is a SHORT ride.

I bet she will feign bravery even if she doesn't like it just to be like her bigger siblings :)

My 21 month old DS LOVED it. Giggling and grinning the whole way. :) He's a big boy though. He's now 2½ and with his new sneakers on he is 39" tall. :teeth:

My little guy will be 21 months old when we go in December and I know he would LOVE it, but there is absolutely no way he will make the height requirement. :( We're going again in late April for his second birthday, but I doubt he will be tall enough then either. He's 17 months old now and only 27 inches. Oh well, he'll get on it eventually. :D

we took ds when he was 24 months old last dec and he loved it. dd who was 3 1/2 did not like it one bit. we just went last week and low and behold both enjoyed it.

Is the ride really jerky like a bigger roller coaster (I've never seen it except a still picture)? I know I will see for myself in November, but I was just curious.

Thanks! Sandra

taking my 2 yr old dd but she is fearless and loves scary rides. Dh is the one that has to ride with her cause I have terrible vertigo.
Let the child decide (as long as they meet the height requirement)
Shes going to be upset that she doesnt get to ride more of them.

The ride is not jerky like a bigger roller coaster. The ride is pretty much over a few seconds after you start. My two oldest kids went on when the met the height requirement and both loved it. :)

I wouldn't say it is jerky, but it is FAST and has some turns that definitely push you to the side (especially a 30 pound child).

Thanks for the responses! My son was just diagnosed as having a larger than normal space between his first vertebrae and his skull (atlantoaxial instability - he is having an MRI next week to make sure no nerves are affected) so I was told this means limited activities. No contact sports, trampolines, gymnastics or something that would jerk his head. That sort of thing. Definitely not a real roller coaster later on, so that is why I was curious about how jerky it was. I guess I will just have to look at it and watch people's heads. He might not be tall enough yet anyway. He is a little peanut.

SandrainNC I hope your DS is ok!

Tip for Barnstormer and toontown:
Try to be the first party at the rope when they open Toontown. We were at the rope by the teacups 1st and when it was time to open Pooh, Rabbit, eyeore and Pluto came out and grabed the kids hands and led a little parade into Toontown to open it. I think you can also do this at the train. My Dd walked Rabbit in and then we were one family too late to get to Goofy. The first family with him gets to ride Barnstormer with him in the front seat like you see in the commercials. DD5 and I got to walk in with them and Goofy and ride in the seat right behind him. My DD was so thrilled she never realized that she was second. Lifetime memory there.

I have to agree with all. My DD4 rode it 2 years ago at age 2 and handled it better than I did. ( embarrassing )

My mom went on the Barnstormer with one of my kids. She hates fast rides. She still talks about how scared she was on it!! My daughter has been very steadfast at trying to convince her to go on it again during our next trip as she has since labeled it "Nana & Jen's special ride". I told my mom she was going to have a tough time getting out of going on it. My kids definately loved it though, and went on it over and over again. The last time we went on, it was near closing time and there were no lines so we rode it several times without getting off, my 9 yr old was in heaven.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of and would rather just wait with her while the others ride but I really must be BRAVE! I rode it in 97 with my friend and her kids and remember not liking it!

Thanks to all for advice!

Thanks Daisylove for the well wishes!! I just want to get that test over with!

That is so cool about the little parade and getting to ride with a character!

In 2002 I took the train to Toontown not knowing that it didn't open til 10am. We got there around 9:45 and when we got off the train there was couple (newlyweds?) having their photos taken with some characters by a Disney photographer. When they were done we got to greet them and I got a photo of my DD taken with Rafiki, Timon, Baloo (she calls him Blue), The Sherif, and Friar Tuck in one great shot. Got individual shots too. Then we were just about the 1st to greet Mickey. It was great but now I'm anxious to try the Goofy thing. DD(5 1/2) would LOVE that. I think she would think it was great to just ride on the same ride as Goofy too.

You have to try that with Goofy. It was so amazing. My Dd continues to this day to tell everyone that it was Goofys ist time riding that ride because I saidd it was the 1st that day. She is so proud that she was there when Goofy 1st rode his ride. I wish I know how to post pics I have a couple of great ones of Goofy on the ride and DD. I know there were a couple of handlers with Goofy who picked. I am so thankful for Goofy and this special ride for making her happy and also for getting her back to loving this simple coaster she was already graduating to the bigger ones and BTMRR was becoming a fave. Now I get a break from it.:D

what is the height requirement? My ds will be 21 months when we go and he is wild. He screams in the car when we go down big hills. He would LOVE a roller coaster. I took my other son, then 3, last year, and he didn't like it, he is not as wild as the younger one.

35"

My DD was 33 1/2 at her 18 month checkup so I'm thinking she'd certainly make it but I'm still undecided. I'm such a wimp but I'm sure she'd love it! She's our #3 and we thought her DBrother our 2nd was wild. He has a slight fear of heights so that really tempered him. This one is wild and fearless! DS LOVED safari maybe your baby boy would love that too. Very surprisingly my DD(5 1/2) is very cautious and shy at home but at Disney on her first trip at 3 1/2 she LOVED Barnstormer and all the characters. She can't wait to go back and try all the big stuff. My DS says he'll go on if he can hold my hand.

DD turned 2 in July and she is 36 1/2 inches tall. (Her dad is very tall as well). Anyway, she is my little dare devil, so I know that she will love this. I am so glad to hear that the height requirement is 35 inches. A girl I know had said that it was 40 inches so we were disappointed.

Maybe we can do the ride with Goofy. DD saw the footage on something last week and said about 50 times that she was going to ride with Goofy. I did not realize that people actually got to do this...I thought that it was just for the commercial.

I learn so much from these boards.

By the way...I watched the Fan's guide special on the travel channel and was a little let down because I did not learn anything new. Now last year...I would have thought it was great, but that was before I found these boards. Thanks guys!!!:cheer2:
