How Would YOU Spoil Yourself?

My DH and I are trying to decide where we want to stay for our September trip. We know it will either be a Value or a Deluxe, as we really don't like any of the Moderates.

WE have decided on Pop Century or Animal Kingdom Lodge, and the price difference for the two is $600. We can either spend the $600 spoiling ourselves with a Deluxe resort, or we can use that $600 to pay for tickets, food, etc.

I know you can't tell US what to do, but I am wondering what YOU would do in this situation? Would YOU spoil yourselves with a resort, or would you be more logical and use that money towards other expenses and stay at a value? (And for the sake of the question, you can imagine it to be your favorite Deluxe, not just AKL. )

For a trip with just my DH, I would spend the money on our accommodations. So, I'd choose the deluxe resort and enjoy everything it offers.

If I was totally spoiling myself I'd go for Castle View Poly, since that's way over the top, I always spoil myself with a Deluxe - Usually one of the Epcot resorts. Dolphin is actually my favorite. Great value.

My dream is to do a deluxe... Would it be hard for me to spend the extra $600? Definitely. Would it be worth it? Without a doubt.

My dream WDW hotel is the Contemporary and I hope when we have kids and take them for their first trip we can stay there.

I had the EXACT same dilemma 4 years ago for my honeymoon. I went with AKL.

Ultimately, my resort choice depends on our budget for a particular trip. Since that was our honeymoon, I decided to splurge a little. For other trips, it may not be as likely for us to do so. Also, I've learned that my husband MUST have a break in the middle of the day, so it's nice for me to have a little nicer place to relax while he's taking his nap.

personally I'd go for the deluxe. But that's just my preference. I like my comforts, I like the theming of the hotels better.

We tend to spend little on food anyway and I never had the need for many souvenirs anyway. We usually buy quite a few, sure, but if I had to choose where to spend some money it would go to a nice hotel.

Go AKL!!! Its such a beautiful place and there is so much to do.

I think it all depends on your finances and how it impacts your overall trip. If you choose AKL, would you have to forgo tickets and eating TS or eating exactly what you want? If that's the case, I wouldn't stay deluxe and miss out on going to the parks. If you can manage the money and still be able to go to the parks, I would stay at AKL. However, if you choose deluxe, will the extra cost be a stress for you? If so, I'd stay at a value and enjoy my vacation more if I were less stressed. If money ends up not being an issue, go for the deluxe.

If AKL is your dream resort, I say go for it!! It's a beautiful resort and will be well worth the splurge...we love it

If it was a trip for just me and DH, I would use the money and stay at AKL. I have stayed at both Jambo House and Kidani and they are both gorgeous.

Its funny I feel the opposite of everyone. When its just my hubby and I, we always go Value and spend the extra money on dining out and shopping. When we have the kiddo with us we go Deluxe so we have more room to stretch out, easier access to the parks and quicker downtime for naps! For example, one trip we stayed POP and then did Deluxe Dining. California Grill, Victoria and Alberts, Artiste Point, Narcossees, Brown Derby, etc. It was wonderful! We cannot do Deluxe with the little one, we're lucky she'll sit still for a 30 minute meal let alone two hours!

We ARE bringing our DD, who will be 13 months. We will be doing two parks, but we aren't much of a TS family. We probably do 2-3 TS a trip.

I think we will probably do AKL, because I don't want to look back and say we didn't for $600.

I support your decision! Really, that isn't a lot of $$$ difference to upgrade to a deluxe compared to some of the others! Could be a LOT more..

I have now twice booked AKV-Kidani (savanna view) by renting points DVC points and both times, the cost came out almost the same as staying at Pop. I just had to give up the free quick service dining plan for the second trip. Maybe you could save yourself some of the $600 and still stay at Jambo or Kidani.

My DBF and I are spoiling ourselves and staying at the Beach Club (we're now onto our 3rd hotel ) with the knowledge that if we go back to WDW it'd be in the far future after a wedding and kids (hopefully together).
