From glancing at it I'd have pronounced it "Eee-Low-Dee", with the Eee a little more pronounced than the other syllables. But now that I see it's supposed to be a name, I'd think someone misspelled "Melody" so I'd pronounce it like that but without the M.

(After Googling, I see that neither of those is even remotely correct since it's French. As an American, I'd never have come up with the correct pronunciation!)

Not an "issue" really, just a question. I would pronounce it like Melody with no M.

We are considering it as a name for our baby if it's a girl...but I don't want to name her a name that she'll be explaining the pronunciation her entire life.

If I got a wide range of answers/pronunciations, I'd take that into consideration when naming her.

Honestly, Melody reminds me of a bully in my middle school. And it seems a little 80's to me...a little dated...for my personal tastes.

Guess I shouldn't talk about "80's names" since my 2 year old is named Amy.

Definitely consider this once or twice. As you can see from the small sampling on this thread there is no real consensus on this pronunciation. Your daughter could very well spend a lot of her life spelling and correcting pronunciation of her name. Are you(and she!) going to be okay with this or will this be tiresome over the long haul?

My first impression was that you would call her eh-LOW-dee. But ELL-oh-dee would also work. My DD18 is named Eleni, a very common name for Greek girls. NOT at all common for American girls. You can't imagine how many ways we have heard name (forget spelling it right). The correct pronuciation is eh-LEN-ee. But we hear uh-LANE-ee, eye-LEEN-ee, ELLEN-ee, and you-LAY-lee. And it probably doesn't help that we have a 10-letter Greek last name that gets mispronounced 40 ways to Sunday. Fortunately, Eleni is okay with it, although she has taken to calling herself Elle lately.

LOL.......I would have guessed eh-LEN-ee, which is correct, or ELLEN-ee.

Personally, not crazy about Elodie or Ellodie, but my opinion doesn't matter, as it's not my child. I know many people weren't crazy about one of my DD's names either.........Ashlyn. Oh well...........

If you do use two ll's like Ellodie it still might be pronounced ellow-die with the die sounding like die/death. I would go with Ellodee.
