How would you have dealt with this? Re:Neighbor and false accusation

Not true.

Perhaps crime scene DNA is more complex and more expensive, but a dog poop DNA test runs around $50. There are tons of companies that are popping up that specialize in testing dog poop: Mr. Dog Poop, PooPrints, DogPile ID, and many others.

Here is an apartment complex that does DNA test dogs. It costs the owner $25 to have the initial sample sent in and then if their dog is caught being the one that left poop, they have to pay the $50 test plus a fine.

As for the OP, apparently she never was taught the saying Two Wrongs Don't Make A Right. I don't know who was crazier, the crazy lady who dumped the original poop or the OP who stormed over there with handfuls of poop to harass a teen and compare poop samples.

Personally, I would be laughing so hard if a neighbor came over with poop. And I would just go the other way around the block and if I had to pass her house, cross the street.

I strongly suspect scam. I'll try to catch one of the forensic scientists when I see them in the building next time and see if they have any thoughts about it.

I was really angry when this happened, and couldn't think straight. Perhaps I could have dealt with this differently, but I was caught off guard. When she came to my door, she had her two young girls with her and I thought she was coming to see if my kids could play. So it was a shock.

We do things when we're angry that we wouldn't normally do. I'm sure if you asked my husband or kids if I've ever done anything a little on the crazy side, they could come up with some stories. I hope now, you can look back on it and laugh.

What? How does not having a fence mean you can't afford a dog?. We are looking for a house closer to where my husband works but are having a really hard time because we can't find a nice house that doesn't have a home owner's association. Almost none of them allow any kind of fence. It's crazy!

If you find a Homeowner's Association that doesn't even allow a fence for your backyard, then you are looking at neighborhoods that do not want dog owners to move there - and probably not even welcoming of children.

If you choose to move there despite the restriction, then have the courtesy to walk your dog on a leash in your own back yard until he does his business before taking him out into the neighborhood. You not being allowed to have a fence doesn't give you automatic license to use every other neighbor's yard as a toilet.

In major murder cases police make a best guess which evidence appears most promising in yielding DNA results and submit the most likely for DNA testing because it is an expensive proposition. No apartment building is going to go to the expense of creating a canine DNA database and then further incur charges for rogue dog waste.
.

Why do you speak of things you have no knowledge of? Apartments can and DO swab dogs - its happening right near me.

I get your point, but the truth is people can't really control their pet's bowels. I always have my dog go in the yard before we go on a walk, but that doesn't mean he won't end up needing to go again once in awhile. I certainly do not think that means he can use my neighbor's yards as a toilet. 90% of the time I'm able to get him to the street first and then I pick up any remains and throw them away. That's why I carry bags. But yes, on rare occasions he ends up pooping in someone's yard. The poop is scooped up within seconds and does absolutely no damage, because I'm a responsible dog owner. Let's try to keep the judgement on the irresponsible owners, okay? What you are doing is no different than blaming parents whose child had the audacity to poop in their diaper in public and now has to be changed in a public restroom. It's not a big deal as long as it is dealt with promptly and appropriately.

People own dogs in big cities like Chicago and New York City though, and they don't have yards with fences. Same with people living in condos, apartments, or townhomes in any sized city. They also raise children in those locations.

Birds, squirrels, rabbits, geese, and other animals are pooping freely on people's yards. If someone else lets their dog poop in my yard but picks it up immediately I'm going to be none the wiser and I already know it's contaminated with droppings from wild animals

If your dog is properly leashed, there is absolutely no reason to ever allow them on a neighbor's yard. If they "accidentally" poop in somebody's yard that means you are allowing your dog to be in a neighbor's yard in the first place. If you are walking, have your dog at heel on the the left side while the yard is on the right and then you will never have to worry about the dog pooping in somebody's yard. To say you can't help it if sometimes your dog just has to go on a neighbor's yard is irresponsible. There is never an excuse to not be 100% in control of your dog.

Different rules apply for those in cities, condos, townhomes, etc.

As an animal lover - in particular, a dog lover - I've got no problem making sure just about anyone can be accommodated in order to enjoy dog ownership. That means when you live in an area with only common grounds, accommodations should be made so that there is a place for you to take your dogs as long as you clean up after them. There's absolutely no reason why those city/condo/townhouse rules should apply to a single family home development where people DO have their own property to utilize. Now it's just a matter of choosing to have your pet use someone else's property over your own.

Just like you don't start parking your car in other people's driveway just because when you lived in the city or a townhouse it was common practice to snag any space you could find to park your car.

I understand. As a dog owner myself, we do our best to have her go potty in our own yard before we take walks, but sometimes during a walk she needs to poop again and it's just too far from home to drag her back to the yard, you know? We always have bags with us and in those cases we try to use a common area of grass/parkway that is not someone's yard, and then immediately clean it up.

Yikes. If you want to take the high ground in a dispute, you can never stoop to retaliation. I mean, you are an adult walking around with poop in your hands? This sounds like reality TV nonsense, not how functional adults behave.

At the end of the day, when I am carrying a pile of dog poop through the neighborhood and reflecting, I think about third grade. If I ran this past my third grade teacher, would she be supportive of my trailer park drama with feces? I see her polyester skirt and L'eggs pantyhose and her stern expression. Alas, I'd have to plan something else for that afternoon.

I would have called the non emergency police line and told them that my crazy neighbor just dumped a whole bunch of dog poop on my yard. No, I'm not kidding, I'd be mad too, but I wouldn't approach her I would just take it up a level.

If she does say something to you again, just suggest she get a camera to put in her window so she can catch the real perp.

Or, several current presidential candidates!!!
(not to get too political at all, but I couldn't help myself!)

I don't see a problem with a common area or the street. It's just when they are allowed onto someone else's property.
