Just curious. Okay, so more venting than curious, I guess. In both the town that I live and in the bigger town that I work, we have a fairly large percentage of Mexicans. Now, this has increased dramatically in probably the last five years.
You hear a lot of "Well, you know, with all the *whisper* Mexicans *unwhisper* moving in." or "There's so many Mexicans in my daughters class now, the whites are almost the minority now"
Now, while they don't come out and say something negative about the Mexican community, you can just tell by the tone of the voice that they are not approving.
So, do you be nice and say something like "I don't really think that's a problem as my husband is Mexican." or do you go the sarcastic route and say "Yea, those Mexicans are a real problem, especially the one I'm married to!!"
Yes, it drives me crazy, I feel my kids are getting very mixed signals from the people they hear talk like that! I mean they hear whites (which they are) talk disprovingly of Mexicans (which they are also). They probably let it roll in one ear and out the other, and I make a bigger deal out of it than them.
