Last time I flew to WDW was April 2004. I noticed when we got home that one of my pieces of luggage had been damaged. Nothing major but the luggage emblem (metal) was completely gone. I took the bag to the AirTran desk at the airport and showed it to them. The man behind the counter said he could issue me a credit of $25 to be used on my next flight. That was acceptabel to me.
Never did he mention that I would have to fly within the year to get the credit.
So, the past couple of times we've been to WDW, I've driven.
This June, we will be flying again.
I called the airlines and reminded them of my $25 credit. The gentleman I spoke to said my credit had expired!
Should credits given for damaged goods be given an expiration date?
I think I should have just asked for them to mail me a check!
Would you be a little ticked with the airline?

UPDATE*****

I can't believe this one! I'm a good one for sending letters or e-mails when dissatisfied with something. The day I first posted this I sent an e-mail off to AirTran. I thought when I sent it I would never hear from them again! I just read my e-mail and there was a response from them! They are going to upgrade me to business seats for my and DS's June trip to WDW!!! Wow, I've never flown business class! :)

Would I be ticked off if I were you? Yes, probably. I think that if a credit is going to be subject to an expiration date, then the person issuing it should have been sure you understood that. I have no issue with them expiring, I do have an issue with it's not being mentioned.

I think you were lucky to get the credit for damaged luggage. Things like that usually aren't covered.

Tuffcookie, that was nice that they upgraded you for your flight. Business class is nice, roomy seats, drinks and nicer snacks plus I've found the attendants to pay a little more attention to DS and give him whatever he wants, lol, within reason! It normally costs $35 at the airport to upgrade to business class (when there are seats available) so the upgrade they gave for free was really nice.

I do agree that you were lucky to get a credit in the first place, I've not heard of that happening for minor bag damage. :)

Some of the airlines have signs that basically says the purpose of luggage is to protect and transport the contents. Damage such as scratches, small tears and probably your missing emblem is normal and won't be compensated for.

Tuffcookie, greetings from Akron Ohio.

You are lucky that they did give you something for that. As mentioned before, that stuff usually isn't covered. You should have been told, in my opinion, that it would expire.

I am glad to hear about your good fortune. I have never flown Airtan, what do you get in Business Class?
