How would I do this?

We just bought a resale contract for SSR, 200 points, August use year. We are receiving all of the 2010 points, which I will bank soon. I called Member Services today, and all of my information is not yet in the system, so I could not make my first reservation. Hopefully tomorrow!

Here is my question - we will receive 200 points on 8/1/2011, we are going to use the 2010 banked points for a trip in October 2011, and then we would like to use 160 points via RCI for a one week trip to Belize in February 2012 for my inlaws (they are part owners of the contract, too), and the remainder of the points for a trip to Hawaii for myself and my husband in February 2012. We will have 400 points available for these 3 trips (without borrowing anything from the 2012 points).
My question is about using the points for RCI. Will I have to transfer the points over to RCI before I find out whether or not the dates they need in Feb. 2012 for Belize are available, or can I find out if the resort/dates are available first? They go with a large group to Belize every year, so the dates are not flexible at all.

You can tell membership services to only transfer the points if the resort and dates you want are available. It will take a lot of luck to have RCI work for you that way.

I hope you did not buy into DVC because of the RCI trading. DVC works really well and is cost effective for staying at DVC properties. It is not very cost effective when trading.

No, we didn't buy into DVC to trade into RCI - this will probably be a one time deal. It's just that since we are starting off with 400 points, if we can let them use 160 for the trip to Belize then we will.

Hope you enjoy it. We really liked SSR. Our favorite section was congress park. Nice quiet pool. Rooms have really nice views of DTD and very quick walk there. The resort itself is beautiful and the Turf Club is one of the hidden gems of Disney.

Yes, we are from TX. My husband and I bought the contract along with his parents. How funny! Did yall sell your SSR contract because you also own at BLT?

Yes. We originally bought SSR back in '08. During our first stay later that year we added on a small contract at BLT. We had our first BLT stay this year and loved it.

We love SSR but really loved BLT. My wife always stayed at the contemporary as a kid and having 2 little girls ourselves, BLT was more convienent.

We debated just adding on at BLT and keeping our SSR contract or selling SSR and buying all BLT. With the two contracts it makes it hard as we would have to wait for the 7 month window to use all the pts at BLT or start borrowing/banking. Thought it was easier to just do all BLT. Plus we want to leave each girl a contract. Thought it would be easier if they were both the same.

SSR is really pretty. We always stayed in the Congress Park section.

We don't have any kids, so right now we can travel any time which makes it a lot easier. I'd like to stay at every DVC resort, though.

Thanks for the pictures! One of the reasons we picked SSR was because of its close proximity to DTD.
