How would Boma be for anniversery dinner?

We would like to try it and I am pretty sure the kids would not enjoy the adventurous eating. ;) So we thought we might try Boma for our dinner alone. I am doubting it is a quiet romantic resturant but are there areas where it is a little quieter? A better time to try for so that it is more couples and less children? I love kids but am hopeful for a little time away from my own for a quiet dinner.

We loved Boma for dinner...it was great to try all the different foods. However, it's probably as far from a romantic restaurant as you can get! It is loud, crowded, pretty brightly lit, and filled with families. I don't even think there's a secluded corner you could hide in! What about Jiko instead?

There are some nooks, but nothing secluded. It is certainly a buffet atmosphere. Having said that, your kids would probably be fine.

To call Boma "adventurous" is definitely an overstatement. They always have a number of traditional kids offerings. And the menu is more African-inspired than truly African. Several of the meats could be served at other restaurants around Disney and you would never think they were out of place. Also, many of the desserts are African only in name. The only thing African about the popular zebra domes is adding "zebra" to the name. And the banana bread pudding? It could be served anywhere.

So if you decide not to make this a couples dinner, consider taking the kids. They should be fine.

ITA and was about to suggest Jiko too. There aren't any quiet spots in Boma and the tables can be close in some areas. Very busy, lots of kids. I also agree with someone else who said it really isn't adventurous eating at all. A select few dishes are, but the majority are regular buffet items.

Thanks!

I'll just plan to take the kids. I didn't want to pay the $19.99 (they are over 10) and have them leave asking when we are eating! ;) But if it is pretty standard food they will find something they like and we can try some new foods too. I like Boma over Jiko as we can try foods but don't have to order just that food.

Now where should we go for a quiet dinner? Is that even really possible in Disney? :confused3

As far as a nice couples type place - I'd say go to one of the signature restaurants. We'll be down for our anniversary in June and we're finally going to try out Artist Point at the Wilderness Lodge. But we definitely enjoyed Jiko on our last trip - there weren't a ton of kids around. We also really liked Narcoosee's.

There's a section of the buffet with "kid friendly" items such as mac and cheese, chicken fingers, fries, etc. There's also cut up fruit in the dessert section. I think your kids will be fine!

If you are not planning on using dining plan credits, you might want to check out Bistro de Paris or bluezoo. The food is superior to Disney dining and they are definitely quieter meals since they do not accept the dining plan.

I agree on both counts. If you are using the DDP I'd suggest Jiko.
