How will recent ticket prices affect your planning of your disney trip?

I feel the price increase of the park ticket for those who only go every few years. May affect planning in other ways.

Will you go for a shorter trip?
Will you omit a TS reservation to compensate for the ticket increase?
Stay off site vs on property or value or moderate vs deluxe?
Not doing the extra dessert parties or dining packages?

Disney might be trying to make more money or thin out the crowds with their price increases and tiered pricing, but i think if people have a WDW budget to stick to -- an increase in park tickets will decrease spending in other areas -- less spending on shopping or food.

So is Disney really making out better? I think it will just make us adjust our plans to fit our budget.

We probably wont go as much so we have longer to save up for it. I get Disney is a cooperation and of course they want to make money but its starting to suck having to go broke every time we want to visit.

We have stayed offsite the past two years, in part because of the ever increasing cost of the trips, but more because our family outgrew the rooms at Port Orleans Riverside (which can sleep 5 if one is small) and the on site options for us are significantly more expensive now. Really, beyond that, the ticket price increases, while not something that I enjoy, aren't really going to have an impact on our plans.

their rising prices won't deter us. It's a major trip for us every couple of years, but we always joke about the overall cost, "...yeah...but it's Disney...!" We've talked about staying offsite. Then laugh at ourselves because that's never going to happen. We do, however, rent points to stay in a villa vs. paying rack rates. That about the extent of where we're willing to compromise. The cost of tickets is actually one of the cheapest parts of our trip, so we never pay any attention when they are increased.

Yeah, that is true. Our villa (offsite) is pretty much the same price as our tickets, and food . .. . way more than the tickets. Prices just are what they are, and either we can afford it every year, or we can do it every other year, or every third etc. It is what it is.

When DH and I go which is 1 or 2 x a year..(retired)..we dont do the parks as often....when we take the kids their spouses and grandkids who are all adults (13 of us) to see Star Wars Land in DHS in 2019 I think we will just do less sit down meals in the evening...but still do 3 day PH.... and golf...we provide the villas since we are DVC........

It has gotten a lot more expensive but it won't effect our trips. We go every 3rd year. I did check the inflation thing. In 2006 I got 2 rooms at Riverside (one for me and my daughter the other for her mother and great aunt). We stayed 12 days and I got the basic meal plan. In those days it included appetizer and tip. I spent around $6000 dollars. Fast forward 12 years and in June I will be spending around $20,000 for 2 rooms at the AKL for 10 days with meal plan ( for 8 people now not 4). Is it to pricey well yes but its only every 3 years and I save the money for it (debt is evil).

It won't at least not the next few years because we bought an AP in January to use for our upcoming April trip. That will take care of this year and next year's trips. We will see where we are at that point.

Onsite hotel prices will be influencing us more than ticket prices. Of course we don't like the increases, but those increases are far more easier to swallow than the increasing cost to stay onsite. Every year I start by pricing offsite first, emotion and nostalgia plus convenience of being onsite sway my decision, especially if I can get a discount. For the first time ever I booked through an agency for the savings they offered on our upcoming trip. If the discounts keep diminishing or disappear, I will consider offsite very seriously and just have to deal with memories of the good times we use to have staying onsite. I love Disney, they love my money-one of us is working much harder to maintain the relationship (hint-it's not Disney).

I'm not affected by the price increase, but if I were, I would still go because considering the total cost of the trip, the small-ish additional amount in my case would not be a factor.

But it’s double the people now and in a deluxe vs moderate. So I see it as 4000 more over the years now. Before u had 4 people.

The tiering is the final nail for us and we won't be able financially to come back (barring a winning lotto ticket, lol) for a loooong time (several years at least), if ever again.

Oh I find it OK, I do miss the appetizer and the tips more than anything. I do not count $1K I have to budget for tips. But I am stuck in the strange situation of having to pay for daughter and god daughters maternal relatives in order to take them. And you are correct I could have saved a lot if I had just stayed at my favorite resort French Quarter.

Ticket price changes won't affect our trips, but other prices have influenced our overall WDW vacation strategy.

Dining and hotel prices, followed by airfare costs are the major cost issues I think about. Hotel rates are going steadily up at a significant pace. The AoA family suite we had in Mar 2015 has gone from 350 a night to about 500. Dining costs are a big expense as well.

We ended up buying into DVC, we use the villa kitchen for many of our meals now, and it's a bit of a hedge against hotel room costs. Next trip I think we're down to 3 TS meals over 8 days, instead of 1 daily. Cost is a big factor there, along with personal touring preference. I hate planning my day around reservations and rather just go with the flow and do what I want when I want.

We just bought tickets for our 2018 trip before the price increase though, and we paid less in 2016 for 10 day parkhoppers than we did a couple weeks ago for 7 day hoppers, so it is noticeable.

We're planning a Sept trip without going to the parks. Have pool time, water parks, and possibly MNSSHP planned, as long as that didn't get raised took much. We are DVC so we have the resorts already taken care of. We went to DLR earlier this year so no AP this year.

Wont affect me at all. I have more loose change lying around than what the increases were.

totally was our favorite place before DVC. that was our go to! good price. small resort and best part. . . beignets after coming back form the park every single night!

We bought our tickets from UT the day before the increase because we knew we were going and I didn't want to pay more than I had to. Honestly, it wouldn't have affected this trip anyway. We were buying 7-day PH, and they only went up $5 each.

That said, we used to be every year (sometimes twice a year) visitors, and now we are every 2-3 years. Our kids have gotten older and everything has gone up in price. This is the first time that we are staying offsite. Part of it is the cost and part of it is space. Our kids are 17 and 15 and we don't want to cram into one hotel room anymore. A DVC unit just isn't in our price range and it ridiculous for what you get (yes, I know about renting points and no, we don't want to do that either). We are renting a 3-bedroom condo at Windsor Hills for $900 total for 9 nights in June. Yes, we will have to drive, but we stopped using buses for the most part 3 trips ago anyway. With that, we will eat breakfast at the condo every day because it is more convenient and that will save some money. We may eat a few lunches or dinners there as well, depending on where we are on a given day.
