I had to get one for my dh - an unexpected knee surgery, now he can't walk for 6 weeks! Right in the middle of our trip.

Does anyone have any experience staying at WL and getting to MK? We also need to go to te Grand Fla. for a b/f.

thanks in advance for any insight you can offer!

The bus might be your best choice. They have a speical handicap lane that you will get in and the driver will load you up. To get to GF I would take the bus to MK and then get in the line for the GF bus. Then do the reverse to get back to your resort.

The bus to MK from WL is your best choice, however there is no bus from MK to GF, for that you would get to MK then take the monorail all the way around to GF. There is a boat route from WL to MK, but only 1 of the 2 boats on the route is accessible, so if that boat just left it is more than 30 min before it will return. The boats from MK to GF are not accessible.

It's really easy to take the buses and the monorail with an ECV. It only takes about 2 or 3 minutes to load the ECV into the bus, and the person using it stays on it the entire time -- the bus "kneels" and a ramp unfolds so you can drive the ECV right onto the bus. No need to get off the ECV and then disassemble it or anything like that. The monorail is even easier.

As was mentioned, I don't believe the ferry from the MK to the resorts is accessible -- but for what it's worth, the one that runs from AK to Epcot with stops along the BoardWalk area is.

No! PLEASE don't!!! The center of gravity for an ECV with a person on it is much higher than average, and even strapped in, the person and the ECV risk falling over on a sharp turn, short stop, etc!!!

Once you're on the bus, signage and the driver advise that the rider move to a seat if at all possible, and then the driver straps in just the ECV. One thing the OP should note it, it's always possible that the same bus that stops at WL will also be stopping at GF - ask the driver. It may depend on the destination noted on the marquee on the bus front. ASK!

Please heed the drivers recommendation to transfer to a seat.

The bus to AK and DTD go to the GF after picking up at WL. In the morning, please check with the driver just to make sure.

To MK it is a direct bus.

During busy times, many bus drivers and cms on the monorail advised me to just sit on the ecv, freeing up seats for others. Don't listen to them. I almost fell off several times due to sudden stops. Take a seat and let the ecv use the straps to hold it in place and not you!

::yes::
It’s always best to get off the ECV on the bus. The ECVs are heavier at the top than the bottom, which means they can tip more easily. Most also do not have a lot of good/easy spots to attach the tiedown straps, so no matter how well the bus driver attaches it, there is still a chance of it tipping.

WL has buses because guests at that resort using ECVs can sometimes not use the boats.
The other MK area resorts don’t have buses because they have 2 means of transportation - the boat (which may not be accessible) and the monorail (which is).

AND, note - there is no handicapped line at the resorts to get on the bus. Make sure you are visible to the bus driver when the bus gets to the stop at your resort. There will be buses for more than one park stopping at your bus stop. We make it real obvious to the bus driver whether we want that bus or not. When a bus comes by we DON’T want, we get eye contact with the driver and shake our heads. WHen the bus we want comes, we usually point at DD’s wheelchair and nod our heads.
