Our group of 11/30 DISers want to meet. How have other groups done this? How did you recognize each other? Was the lime green ribbon enough? When did you meet? Where did you meet? What did you do to make it special? bubbles, etc?
We're looking for ideas. Thanks

In January we had a couple of meets set up so that everyone could meet some people. We met before the sailaway party, then again Monday on deck 7 secret verandah. There was also about 30 of us on the Golden Eagle Catamaran excursion in St Maarten so that ended up being a meet too. We met a few DISer's at the Radisson the night before and Shirley from the Perfect Gift stopped by with a bottle of bubbly. We took that with us to the deck 7 meet a opened it up!

In January we had a quick meet in Coach's room. As you may have read he was upgraded to a Cat 3 at the last minute and shared is good fortune. Since it was a 3 day with no days at see that was the only time we were able to get together.

The lime green ribbon did help recognize people. In October we met 3 or 4 DIS in line at the port because of the lime green ribbon.

The best meet we had was at dinner. In January we didn't make it to the meet before the sailaway party. At dinner our tablemates showed up and we started making small talk- come to find out she was a DISer! Our girls became fast friends and by the end of the cruise our servers thought we were traveling together. We sailed again together in October on the 3 day and another DISer linked dinner reservations with us- so there wer 3 sets of DISers at the table. It was good talking to people that you already kind of knew(from the boards) and had similar interests -- Disney :jester:

On our last cruise Barb & Tony were in front of us in the check in line. Took a few minutes until I realized it and by then they walked away. So after we checked in we went over to meet them. While introducing ourselves we found out Disneyholicfamily had already met them and were right there too. It was so exciting! We never did meet up with Scott Campbell or Opsomyo, but after getting home, I realized I had opsomyo and her daughter in my video. She was right infront of me at the sail away party and I never realized it. :)

On our first cruise we knew that the Crowbirds(who I havent seen around here in some time, hello if you are lurking!) were from England and had 2 teenage daughters. On our last night we went to to family karaoke. There, 1 teen got up and sang and they announced her name and that she was from England. Then another girl, with the same last name, and from England, got up and sang. Then my sister and I realized that their last name, could be related to "Crowbirds", so it HAD to be them. After Karaoke we went outside to watch the Magic pass by us and they were out there. My sister asked if they were the "Crowbirds" and they were. :) Another exciting moment!

Deck 7 aft overlook "secret Verandah" was great for our Oct 19 group. We all brought a bottle of wine from our home state, or a favorite. Do this as early in the cruise as possible, so that you have the rest of the cruise to run into each other. Then as other things come up, word will spread. (We also had a list of everyone's rooms, so a gang could have been gathered at a moments notice if needed:p ). We found ourselves spreading info on who was going to be in the talent shows and supported each other etc. Quite honestly, meeting everyone and seeing them often on the ship was the best part of the cruise for me. An "excellent" cruise with a bunch of friends.

The lime green shirts were a great help at the terminal. We had 2/3rds of the gang introduced before even boarding!

Have a blast. Pulling off a meet is definitely worth it.

last january, on my first disney cruise, we had a group of DIS folks meet by the mickey statue at 11:30 a.m. on a sea day, and then we all sat together for a nice and really long lunch. After that then we all kept bumping into each other throughout the week. Also there were some of the group that had gone on the same excursion as we did to Buck Island, so that was a lot of fun too.

As SC Minnie said, in October we were on the three day, and with time so short, Coach and his wife and family were gracious enough to host a quick get together in their CAT 3 room. Quite a few showed up for that meet. Then we also had our dinner ressies linked to SC Minnie and to Magic Mickey. We felt like we were sitting with old friends the first night, and it sure was fun to sit with these folks!!!

One thing i will say about hooking up your dinner ressies with other folks -- you sure have a better idea of the type of folks who will be your table mates throughout your cruise! I highly recommend doing this!

I mailed lanyards with card holders to all of our DISers on our cruise earlier this year. I had made custom inserts that included there DIS names. This was nice to recongnize other DISers throughout the week --- plus it was a very usable item. For the sailaway day -- at the port and onboard alot of us wore green leis [which I also mailed out ahead of time]. We had a 'meet' during the sailaway party on deck 10 PORT overlooking the goofy pool/dancing area. We also had made a DIS sign and hung it over the railing in the area where we were meeting people.

On our cruise May 01, while at the Disney store I found a lime green tanktop with royal blue dots all over it. Of course it also had Mickey on it. We were all to meet at the sail away party, but that top stood out, and while in line someone asked if I was on the Dis board. That whole 1st day people came up to me before time to meet. It was the highlight of my trip. I think that we were the only ones to meet everyone that was on the board.
Needless to say, that the tanktop is safely stored for my next trip in May 03.

Dec 14th cruisers have plans in the works as to where to meet for lunch one day. ;) Thus far, we are leaning towards a luncheon at Lumiere's. I can't wait!! How could we not take the time to meet up and put faces to names after all the time we spend on this wonderful board giving each other such great advise? Right gang? :) SuAnne was kind enough to make a list of everyone she emailed out that will really help. Especially those of us who sometimes have occassional 'memory lapse'. Lime green ribbons it is! :teeth:
PS - Day 1 our  family will be wearing matching MM shirts!

On our 11/24/01 cruise we arranged to meet in the Promenade Lounge the morning after leaving port. We had a pretty good representation from the boards and kept running into each other throughout the cruise.

I went on my first cruise just on Oct 24-27, and when we boarded the ship and was told to go to eat, we chose Parrot cay and we sat at a table with a family and the mom had a lime green dress on. We started talking and we were both from Indiana, we thought that was neat, then I asked her if she'd ever heard of the message boards. Turns out I am the one who started the link for roll call and she was one that replyed. She said she didn't even think about the lime green dress until I said something to her about it. What a coincidence! It was Lanajane on these boards. I really enjoyed talking to her throughout the cruise.:bounce:

The dress I decided to wear to our Parrot Cay dinner is a lime green w/tropical trees sleeveless dress. Maybe I should wear it during the day too.

We sailed on the July 20th cruise this summer and met with fellow Dis friends at the sail away party. As another DIS friend suggested, PartiesNBalloons, it was too stressful to meet on the first day of our cruise. You're boarding the ship and then it's a mad dash for lunch, first time guests are getting to know their way around, the safety drill is usually at 4:00PM, you need to get ready for dinner (if you have early seating), get somewhat settled in your room, etc... The first day is pretty hectic.

From our experience, I would suggest that it's better to try and meet the second day of the cruise when everyone is more relaxed. Just my opinion.

Have a wonderful time!

:sunny:

wovenwonder, how wonderful that you took the time out to make all those things for the DIS folks on your cruise! That is terrific!

as Camcolt already mentioned, we didn't have anything prearranged but managed to meet almost everyone...(there weren't very many disers on the july 4th cruise)....
Barb and Tony were right in front of us in line at check in, but i didn't realize it...
then a checkin window opened up but Barb was waiting for someone specific so she told us to go in front of them....as we checked in my daughter said to me"mommy that was "Barb"...THE Barb''....i turned to look, but Barb and Tony were engaged in an animated conversation with some DCL people by that point so i didn't want to interupt.....
after checking in we went to the area by the window to sit down and there were Barb and Tony again....this time i introduced myself...a short while later i saw a cute young woman and her husband talking to Barb and Tony and realized it was Camcolt and her husband...so i came over to introduce us......we all had a nice chat while waiting to board and a few group pictures were taken....

we finally met up with Scott Campbell in the family dueling pianos...
i was sitting at the back with my daughter (who'd become a dueling pianos groupie by that point) and a family in front of us caught my eye.....the man looked very very scottish and his son was just the right age.....i couldn't hear them so i coudln't hear their accents but i decided to be bold and went over to them after the show to introduce myself...sure enough it was Scott and his lovely family.....

we unfortunately never had the pleasure of meeting opsomyo ...
