Hello everyone.
Just asking how wet you do actually get on the wet rides at WDW.From experience i,ve often found that wet rides don,t soak as much as you think they will, but is this the case at WDW.Also my daughter wants me to wear a pair of Mickey Mouse ears on our trip.At 6 foot 4 I,m rather reluctant, what do you think. :umbrella:

On Splash Mountain you generally get splashed, but not soaking wet.
On Kilamanjaro Rapids, you can get soaked!

As far as the ears go, you can get away with it! It's Disneyworld! My 6'4" hubby got the mickey pirate ears. Maybe you can find a type of mickey ears besides the standard ones that you like (or don't hate)?

Most of the water rides don't get you very wet - a few drops on your clothing and wet arms. However, the Kali River Rapids can get you completely drenched from head to foot depending on where you are sitting on the ride when it goes down the last hill. Those at the bottom of the raft will have a large wave wash completely over them. This was me last time we rode it and even though it was 90+ degrees outside it took me several hours to completely dry. You might want to bring ponchos for that ride.

Regarding the ears - believe me you won't be the only father wearing them and once you get caught up in the magic, you won't mind! :earsboy:

I agree Splash Mt you get some water on you, Kali if your sitting in the right seat it like some one tossing a bucket of water on you. Like the sign says "You will get wet, you may get soaked"

If Kali gets you so wet can you leave your bags, camera etc. at the start of the ride.
Coming round to the ears.

I don't think that a poncho would have helped us at all when we went on Kali River Rapids. The 4 of us could not have gotten wetter - we were sopping wet - we could have filled buckets with water by wringing out our clothes.
The funny thing is, that although DH, DS9,DD7 and I were soaked, the young fellow sitting across from us - around 17, was completely dry!! He was quite amused!!!

There were powerful dryers in the washrooms which were positioned low and as I recall , helped speed up the drying process!

On Kali there's a center section that is covered and you can put your personal items in there and they go for the ride with you.

Kali was by far my DD's favorite ride when she went at just barely 4 years old. It was a cool Feb day and we were DA-RENCHED and she so wanted to go on again. Forunately for we grownups we did that ride at the very end of the day and they had closed off the ride while we were going through. I'm certain that's one of the first things she'll want to do on the upcoming trip. DH, his parents and I are trying to figure out the right clothing to wear that day. I'm thinking microfiber of some kind. :cold: :umbrella: and hoping for :sunny: that day.

Last year, on Splash Mountain, I was in the 2nd row on the right directly behind my 4 year old son, and all the water went right over him and got me drenched!! This was the only time I have gotten REALLY wet on that ride!

as said before, splash mountain will splash you, kali is like taking a shower with your clothes on, if you fell in the water on this ride it wouldn't make you any wetter. but thats half the fun i guess.(unless its a cold day :cold: )

A note about Splash Mountain if you want to stay dryer (do the opposite if you want to get wet).
Check the seat before you sit down (depending on where the people in the boat before you were sitting the seat may be wet).
Keep your feet up (easiest if you sit in the front of the boat). Water can collect in the bottom and will move around as you go up and down the hills. It's easy to end up with very wet socks.
Ride in the lightest boat possible. More weight means the boat sits lower in the water and hits the bottom of the drops with a greater force displacing more water, some of which will end up on you.
Sit in the front of the boat. Just before the boat hits the bottom of the drop, duck forward pulling your head down towards your chest and make sure your arms are in. Only your back is exposed, so only that will get wet. Be warned though, all the water that would have gone on you will end up on the person behind you (Mom won't let me sit in front of her anymore).

For Kali River Rapids, be prepared to get soaked. I've always just sorta gotten wet, but have seen people soaked. Lighter boats seem to do a little better at staying dry, but not always. All depends on whether you get stuck under the water fall and how you hit that last hill and short of some high powered analysis with super computers and probably some chaos theory, there's no way to figure that one out.

The other option is to wear rain gear on the water rides. You might look a little silly, but you'll be dry (and the afore mentioned Mom won't be. But, she's a good sport. :) )

Kali is very similar to jumping in the rapids with all of your clothes on. For a second I thought I must have fallen out of the boat I was so wet!

I've ridden Kali and have been hardly splashed. Other times, I've been soaked. It just depends on where you are at in the boat at different times. If you want to get really wet, try Bilge Rat Barges at Universal IOA. You are soaked to the skin every time!

I envy those who said they only got slightly wet on Splash Mt. I was in the front seat in the log, and when I tell you I got soaked, that doesn't begin to describe it. I was totally soaked through to the skin from head to toe! Luckilly it was a very hot day, but it was cloudy and oh, so humid, so I walked around wet for p[retty much the rest of the day. The ride was definately worth it, but I don't think I would go again if it wasn't a nice hot sunny day, or maybe the last ride of the day, so I could go back to the resort and change!!! :earsboy:

On Splash Mt., your seat will be a bit wet, and if you duck down during the plunge, it will be livable.
(note - the back seats on a flume always get it the worst)

On the Rapids, wet is W-E-T!

Our plan of attack for the Rapids: wear your bathing suit under your clothes, and switch into washable shorts and flip-flops before you ride. Then, change into dry clothes and shoes. Remember Ziplocs for wet stuff after and to keep stuff dry during, plus a plastic shopping bag for your bag!

Go first thing in the day, or last thing, but don't walk around WET all day.
(Chafing and rash - 'nuff said.)

I always wear a bathing suit, shorts and flip-flops early in the day and get all the "wet" rides out of the way first. That way, I can get changed and spend the rest of my day comfortably.

This is especially true at IoA for Bilge Rat Barges, Jurassic Park ride and Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls. The latter will get you totally soaked wherever you are sitting in the log! I do the same for Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay as they have a few rides (and viewing areas) that can get you drenched as well! ;)

After about 5 rides on kali, my son had it figured out. After you go through the volcanoes, as you are waiting for the last big drop, if you are the ones sitting with your backs to the gate, you will be the ones wringing out your clothes when you get off. It seemd fairly consistent in our rides. Sadly all you can do if you are the "lucky" ones is smile through the splashes! It's kinda like playing the lottery, I guess. Even if you don't win, the anticipation is the joy! :sunny:
