How wet do you get on Kali River Rapids??

The videos are great; here's a still shot

We have determined, though, that for the length of the wait vs. the length of the actual ride (and the prospect of getting that soaked), we won't be riding this again.

I totally agree with this. I was VERY disappointed with the ride, and IMO was not worth getting as wet as I did. I have skipped this ride ever since.

Kali is pretty much my favorite WDW ride. Here's the plan that we follow:
Bring a change of clothing, including undies, and stash them in a locker when you arrive at AK. Save Kali until the end of the day (crowds are less then, too). Before riding, change out of sneakers and socks and put on flip-flops. Ride Kali three or four times in a row, get soaked and have fun! :thumbsup2 then go and retrieve your dry clothing and change in the restroom.
We just did all the above three days ago!

We always save it to be the last ride of the day - ride Kali (possibly more than once depending on the lines)...get soaked...get on bus back to resort. At least 1-2 of us end up soaked, but it doesn't matter if your on the way back to the pool.:thumbsup2

We were there last month, and two of our party of three got soaked! But in saying that, for us that was half the fun, so it didn't bother us - and it was early in the day, so we had lots of time to dry. A few years ago, we did have to buy a t-shirt for our youngest DS as we rode just before we were leaving the park and going straight to supper.

But be careful - in addition to the wet t-shirt look, beware the wet shorts look! Our last time riding it, another woman wore light beige shorts, of the quick dry sort. She was in the lucky/unlucky seat (depending on how you look at it!) and as she walked away we all had a clear view of her dark blue thong, through her shorts :rotfl:. A man waiting to board the ride nearly gave himself whip lash he turned so quickly :rotfl2:

Bottom line - if you don't like to get wet, avoid this one or come prepared.

(And in a side note for the ladies reading - panty liners won't stick after this ride and getting wet. Just a word of caution :rolleyes1)

Your chances of getting wet are not entirely random. If you sit across from very obese people (and you have a normal BMI), then your odds of getting soaked increase dramatically.

Flip a coin... I did this ride 2 weeks ago. 3 people on our raft looked as if they had jumped in the water and were completely soaked... 2 more of us looked like we were simply misted with water. Best of luck :) ....... and keep that poncho handy :)

Never rode it but want to know if you get the worst of it how wet do you get?? Like COMPLETELY drenched or just semi-wet?? Splash Mountain wet or worse? Thanks!

Far worse than Splash. We rode it 3x. And every time I came off it literally wring-your-clothes-out soaked. Some people were only mildly wet, so... it's hard to say what you'll get. I loved it, DD (5) loved it. It was her favorite ride.

As far as spare clothes, we went in June so it was HOT. So I just wore a sundress and sandals (not the kind that has absorbant base), so there was no dealing with sticky jeans, wet shoes etc... My dress was dry in no time in the heat, even with the humidity.

There are lockers nearby so put everything in there before you get on. Also, a poncho is not foolproof. I've done it and still gotten very wet (although not drenched). I would pick a day that is warm, for sure and pack something dry to put on afterwards. We also had to buy dry clothes after we went on it ourselves.

Good ride A definite must do.

  • Cell phones in a Zip lock baggy and wallets and the like in the dry box center raft.
  • Hold feet up or at least put feet on the foot bar.
  • Ride close to your break time. Mid day or end of day. Especially during cooler weather.
  • I don't do ponchos but that may help. I just don't ever carry anything extra.
  • I usually get the full wall of water over my back but I dry out pretty quickly.

I've come off it with barely a drop....and in June I came off it completely soaked to the point I was wet for hours and my nude bra was stained by my shirt (obviously that's my issue with my shirt dye but that's how wet I got). That day MANY people were coming off soaked and honestly it was really uncomfortable to the point I might not do it again soon. It was super hot out and still really uncomfortable. I know people sometimes take a change of clothes in case of that. Honestly how wet you will get is totally the luck of the draw. Even my boyfriend sitting next to me barely got wet, as well as the other people with us.

It depends. It really could go either way. When I rode it last August, I got a few drops of water on my legs, that's it. But the lady directly across from me had a wave of water come down directly on top of her. It's totally unpredictable.

POTC looks at your "How wet...." question, points at Kali and laughs, while proclaiming "I'm the new kid on the block, NOW!!"

But....you can get wet on Kali.....like 'don't-wear-colored-undies-under-white-shorts-on-AK-day' wet.

One person always gets completely, totally, ludicrously drenched.

That person is always me. :rotfl:

Bring extra clothes & ride it at the end of the day. Personally, I can't tolerate it otherwise.

Zombie thread from 2010. I think the OP already has their answer.

As you have seen, depends on luck of the draw. We rode a couple of weeks ago and I was the "lucky" one with my back to the water when we went down the large drop. My wife and daughter laughed all day about the wave of water that came up over my head and drenched me. Looked like I jumped in a pool with my clothes on. My son sitting next to me was pretty wet too on one side, wife and daughter hardly wet at all. We scheduled our FP for the ride late in the morning so that we could ride before we left for lunch and if someone got wet it wouldn't matter.

As an aside, I was sort of disappointed with the ride. Didn't mind getting wet but there wasn't much to the ride other than one large drop.
