How wet do you get on Kali River Rapids??

I usually wear a poncho, which I tuck under my myself to stop wet undies, I also put my feet up on the bar so that they are sitting in the puddle on the bottom of the raft.

Last time we were on it, I didn't wear a poncho & got drenched! Even though it was december I dried out fairly quickly.

Great idea-- I will have to do that!! My goal this trip is to try things I have never tried before and I think this will have to be one of them.

And wear sandals! The water doesn't stop at the clothes.... I have seen many a soaked sneaker:goodvibes

Never rode it but want to know if you get the worst of it how wet do you get?? Like COMPLETELY drenched or just semi-wet?? Splash Mountain wet or worse? Thanks!

Every time I've been on it (10 times or so), I've got soaked. Especially my feet.

Just chiming in: I ended up with the "lucky" seat and took the last drop facing backwards. The wave came over the back, like having a barrel of water dumped over you at full force. I swear I have never been so wet in my entire life! Luckily, that was the last thing we'd planned to do at AK that day.

This is one of only 2 rides I have never been on at WDW (Speedway cars at TomorrowLand is the other), because you have the chance to get so wet. I hate being drenched. Our last trip. we planned to do this as our last item before heading back to the hotel. Just figures that a big thunderstorm rolled in about that time and chased most of the people out of the park.

I went on it a few weeks ago. My boyfriend laughed as I put my poncho on ... but he was not laughing when we got off and he had gotten soaked. :)

I would rather look silly, and be comfortable for the rest of the day, then be soaked.

Nothing about walking around a park all day in wet socks is fun.

PROUD PONCHO WEARER!! :)

Me too!

Plus, that is the best way to keep your park bag dry. The spot in the middle they tell you to put your bags in is not waterproof. I kept my baggalini on, under my rain poncho.

I also take my socks off before getting in line so that they are not soaked. It is so nasty to walk around in wet socks.

I get completely soaked on Kali. I have gotten two new pairs of shorts and three new shirts from it. Last trip had to actually go back to hotel to change and redo my hair before meeting my dad for lunch. I had leaves in my hair that were in the water.

My plan this time - ponchos and flip flops with my sneakers in a ziploc bag in the center of the raft.

WAY, WAY WAY TOO WET!!!! Did I mention TOO wet?? I have spent a couple of miserable visits to AK because I was soaked as if I had been thrown into a swimming pool totally dressed. Even in July I could not dry out for the remainder of the visit. Much to my kid's dismay, I am done with Kali!

jb

DS7 and I were the unlucky ones to get SOAKED (DH and DS3 barely got wet -- I'm glad my little one didn't get wet -- better me than him). In any event, I was wearing a plain white shirt (dumb, dumb, dumb) and had to wear my backpack facing forward for a while. I went to the bathroom right after the ride (to survey the damage ) and let's just say every piece of clothing on my body was drenched/dripping. On the bright side, once I stopped literally drippping, it kept me cooler for the next few hours. Gotta look at the bright side! We have determined, though, that for the length of the wait vs. the length of the actual ride (and the prospect of getting that soaked), we won't be riding this again.

It's just roulette. The round raft spins as it goes and stops when it hits the conveyor belt taking it up the lift. If you happen to be facing backwards going up the lift, you're toast and you're drenched when you go down. If you happen to be facing forward, you only get somewhat wet. Other than getting drenched and allot of people wear ponchos (highly recommended), the ride really isn't that much fun. It's really not much than a relatively slow raft ride. I would highly recommend skipping this one.

My DD5 HATES being wet in her clothes, her and I (don't know what DH plans) will be changing into bathing suits before we get on. Bathing suit for her for Splash Mountain. I don't mind getting a little wet, but she got soaked by Shamu last Cmas and it was NOT worth hearing her complain for weeks. Seriously she was MAD at that whale!

I haven't ridden on Kali, but my general tip for rides of that ilk is this: wear a poncho (of course), and also bring along a large plastic bag. The kind you get at any WDW gift shop is perfect.

Get on the ride. Tuck your poncho under you (to avoid wet-tush syndrome). Keep your backpack/bag/whatever on your lap under the poncho. Stick your feet inside the plastic bag. Enjoy.

When the ride is over, rip off the bag and toss it. Check out your fellow riders, and feel great relief that your feet aren't soaked like theirs. :rotfl:

Honestly, if I could only bring one I'd choose the plastic bag over the poncho in a heartbeat. Nothing is worse than slogging around in soggy sneakers for the rest of the day.

Bring along a disposable poncho from the dollar store--spares you the drenching and then you can just toss it post-ride. You can enjoy the ride worry-free!

Do the ponchos REALLY work on these rides? I've heard "not so much"....

I can't deal with wet socks or undies. AT. ALL. It keeps me off water rides generally. Bringing a change of just socks & undies doesn't help if your shoes and clothes are wet and bringing a full change of clothes is too much to carry. So I stay away from the water rides. Far, FAR away. LOL

I've done the plastic bags over my feet on Pirates too.... :rotfl:

If you have a backpack or other large bag put a change of clothes in it. Also a large garbage bag. before just before going on the ride but you backpack in the garbage bag. You put that in the container in the middle. When you get off you can go change in a rest room and put your wet things in the plastic garbage bag. You will be thankful you did. When we go in May my dd who will have turned 16 just 3 days prior will wear a rain poncho when she goes on the ride or her father and brothers will not let her go on (a bit overprotective). She will come off the ride looking like she just came from a wet t-shirt contest. Have you ever noticed all th teenage boys just standing there watching as people get off. I know this, I have two of my own. Boy did they catch **** from DH last time when he found them doing just that.

I'm pretty sure you'll have to wear something over top of the bathing suits to be allowed on the ride.

Great idea, and great way to keep from having soaked clothes!

you asked my favorite question. i say this because the first time my daughter, niece, sister, and i rode my sister was the only person who didn't really want to ride it. she'd done a spray tan the night before and has...how shall i say this...a bit of an attitude (with my memories of her acting like candice from phineas and ferb when we were kids). we all came off perfectly dry except my sister. a wave of water crashed over her head completely drenching her...funniest moment of my life! she was wearing denim capri pants that held the water and kept running/dripping...and kept running what was left of her spray tan. :rotfl:
basically the ride is a gamble as to getting wet or not.
