How Wet Am I Going To Get?

I gather that many of the rides at Universal are water-focused, and I guess I'm wondering how that impacts what you wear. My normal vacation attire would be a pair of cotton shorts, a polo shirt, and a pair of leather sandals, but if I'm going to get drenched, I may want to look at other options.

Would swim trunks and a t-shirt be more appropriate? Should I refrain from wearing shoes that I don't want to get ruined? I don't mind getting wet, I just want to be prepared.

Also, would it be unusual to bring a dry change of clothes?

You will get drenched. Skip the polo shirt for a lightweight t shirt. Skip the cotton shorts for a quick drying nylon/polyester shorts or swim trunk type shorts.

It isn't unusual to bring a change of clothing but then you have to store them all day. You don't want to be lugging them around and putting them in lockers at the rides that don't let you bring bags.

Thank you, I appreciate the unequivocal response. Looks like I'm going to be picking up some Tevas and swim trunks with better pockets. :)

Re the lockers, are they the sort of thing where you get charged every time you open them, or do you basically rent it for a period of time and you can come and go as you please?

If it's at an attraction that doesn't allow carry ons, the lockers are free for the duration of the ride. You can also rent the lockers at the front of park but you would have to walk back and forth which is no fun. I think the all day fee is either $8.00 or $10.00 per locker.

Last time I went I wore clothes that had already been worn once and cheap sandals. I took a bag with clean clothes, proper sandals and a towel which I left in the all day lockers at the front of the park. I did all the wet rides, went back to the lockers, got changed in the toilets, put wet stuff in locker and enjoyed the rest of the day. I just picked the stuff up on the way out at closing time. Works for me!

We do pretty much the same as a pp. We rent a locker at the front of the park for the day and store sandals and a couple of towels in it. We then go and do what we want for the day and do all the wet rides at the same time because you will be soaked. Hubby and son wear bathing suits and tee shirts, our daughter wears quick drying shorts and double tank with a bathing suit top, and I have a shorts/tank top outfit that is actually made out of quick drying material from LLBean. We go to the locker before doing the wet rides and change out of our walking shoes into the sandals and then go do the wet rides. We will then go back to the locker, change back into the walking shoes and actually leave to go back to the Hard Rock for a swim since we are already soaking wet. For us the best part is staying on-site so we have easy access to a shower before going to dinner and the park again at night.

How wet you will get (use this as reference)

Jurassic Park: wet, possibly soaked, top half of your body. You never know how wet you'll get. You usually get more wet in the front and less in the back. It depends on the weight distribution.

Ripsaw Falls: completely soaked. Weight distribution has minimal effect here. Back heavy logs get less soaked, but the difference is negligible. The 25-cent water cannons after the drop are the wettest part of the ride. Also, taller people should sit in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th seats. The trick is to SLIDE into the seats.

Popeye & Blutos: completely soaked. This ride is just brutal. Abandon all hope of staying dry. Only pure luck will get you get not-too-soaked.

One Fish Two Fish: wet, possibly soaked. It all depends on how well you fly your fish. Follow the rhyme and you should be okay for *most* of the ride.

Jaws: wet, but not too much.

Before going on Jurassic Park for the first time, I asked the TM at the entrance: "Might I get wet on this ride?"

He said "No. You WILL get wet on this ride. You MIGHT get soaked."

That comment made me laugh out loud...so very true! I was soaked through every piece of clothing I had on, including my shoes! :rotfl: All part of the fun, so much so we went straight back on afterwards for another soaking!

If I'm the one with a pocketful of quarters at the showerheads you *will* be soaked. I'm *good* with my timing. *Very* good. I could spend $50 in a day just drowning people with the middle showerhead. :rotfl:

Popeye and Blutos!!:banana: I love this ride when it's hot out!! We will go on it over & over with the FOTL and never get tired of it, or leave with a dry spot!!!!

I'm glad to read this thread - I really wouldn't have given it any thought! And your list was very helpful, Dark Marauder!:thumbsup2

We're going for the first time, primarily for Harry Potter; but it's time I give some thought to the rest of the day there too!:woohoo:

I'm glad to hear you planning for the rest of the park as well as WWoHP. So many people come just for HP and then leave. I don't understand the logic in paying so much for theme park tickets for one area of the park and ignoring the rest. It will never make sense to me but I guess as long as Universal is making its money all is well.

I had to laugh at the comments about Popeye and Bluto's. I always say that you might not get as wet when you take a shower than when you ride the bilge-rat barges. They are great fun though.

That first gush of water is always a shocker.

LOL - not for that money$$$!. I swear this day, with one night at a Univ hotel, will run us $1000 for our family of 5.:scared1:

I know. It is crazy expensive just doing one day at any park. That's why a SeaWorld/Universal/Disney trip is almost more expensive than going to Europe!!!

The best way to do it is to go for several days in the off-season. It is actually very reasonable then.

My daughter would love to get soaked, but I just want the fun without getting wet. Will having a poncho on help prevent from getting soaked? If not, I may need to develop a different touring plan with the consideration of how soaked we will get.

Thanks for the great info!
