I thought it would be a cool thread for anyone who has just got back or when you do come home to post how the seas were when you cruised.......

It will maybe give a neat time line of the seas the time of year you are going to travel............Especially with the new weather patterns happening,
(S. Florida cool in the low 60's for April :teeth: )
I think it would be interesting if anything to see how the sailing were when you went. I know there is no major real pattern, but I thought it would be interesting.

We cruised last November 14/05 and the seas going out were ok, not to bad, on the return we had 20-25ft seas.................the ship was rocking but Capt. Henry did AWESOME!!!!

Usually the seas are just a little rough going out and coming back in due to crossing over the Gulf and Atlantic I think???? But the Magic and the Wonder being approx. 83,000 tons really handle quite well.........

Just wondering how your trip was............

This is not related to Florida, however last Feb. on RCL out of San Pedro going to Mexico the first night was ROUGH! Some people it effected others no. I was the only one in my family where it upset my tummy! My kids and DH were fine. My DD who was 1 at the time stumbled a few times that night. What was wierd though was the weather was perfect that day, but i think the rain from the day before is what caused the seas to be a bit rough.

We sailed on 9/27/04, right after Hurricane Jeanne. The seas were extremely calm the whole time with only "wavelets" -- meaning nothing even measurable.

Just came off a western caribbean cruise (3/26/05) and had some really high waves - 20-25 feet one night. The rest of the time they were less, but in general it was quite a bit rockier than the September cruise.

DW and I were on the 4 day on 11/28/04 and the constant reading was 3-4 feet. It was something we never even felt, as far as wave action. However, when you cross over the Gulf Stream, there will be some movement, and also when the Captain is cruising at high speed. All combine to put a little motion in the ocean on even the smoothest of days. But, for me it was a nice gentle rocking to sleep on the return home at speed.

June 19, 2005 Western also had 3-4 foot waves...very smooth all week.

Zeek11 we were on the 3/26 sailing as well - I must've been sleeping really well because I don't recall anything that rough. I thought that the entire cruise was very smooth sailing. My recollection is that one morning as I watched "Report from the Bridge" they were calling the seas 8-12. Still not too bad, particularly since this was (at least to me) an isolated incident. Now the tender process in Grand Cayman was sporty - I thought that was the worst we experienced in terms of wave action. But as Corso says "Not so fast my friend!" :sad2: Our NYE cruise (Eastern bringing in 2004) was not so smooth. I think 8 foot seas was the best we did - New Years morning (early around 2 am) we were rocking in about 22 foot seas - those babies woke from a dead sleep.

Sailed Feb. 29, 2004 and the first night was really bad, we almost fell down the steps in front of Tritons when we hit a swell but for the rest of the trip we didn't feel any movement at all.

The beginning of Feb has rough seas on the way to Nassau. Going thru the straits gets pretty rough especially at the high speed they use to get to Nassau. After that they slow down and the seas were always calmer making for a very nice trip....

We were on the April 2 Eastern...6 of the 7 days were great.....The one evening it was very noticible. The "report from the bridge" said it was only 8-12 ft waves....but I think they were bigger then that....Did anyone else sail on that cruise and remember that night?

DD and I were on the 3 night Wonder cruise March 24. It was great! I have nothing to compare it to but it seemed mostly calm to me. I'd like to hear from a more experienced cruiser on the same trip. :goodvibes

10/24/04
First night out - again crossing the Gulf Stream- 15-20 foot seas (maybe some were larger.) VERY rocky, MANY sick passengers. We even got an announcment that the "ship is not in trouble. High Seas. Remain Calm." I was very sick all night. Rest of the trip was great (plus, I put on the sea sickness patch after that too.)

For the last three January's the second week has been very good weather. I did hear that this past January the week after we sailed that they could not dock at CC because of rough waters.

We like January sail dates but have booked a December cruise for 2006 to be different.

We were on the 12-27-03 to 1-3-04 cruise with you. Those waves did wake me up (but nobody else in the family)....but only for a few minutes.

This was my 7th cruise, my first was a 2 week Caribbean cruise on the MS Mermoz, a ship about 1/3 the size of the Magic, and NO stabilizers. There were times where you walking uphill down the hall one second, and downhill the next. Trust me the worst of the Magic cruise was smooth compared to that.

I think Melissa and I pretty much had the same experience as you, Dana. I wonder why. :rotfl:

We did find the first night to be a little rocky, though!

We were on the 1/13 Wonder, and the seas were okay for us. I think the stateroom TV posted 14-20 ft. waves for the whole sailing, though some nights were worse than others. The first night I did notice a very small amount of movement, but I remember telling the DH that it was just enough to rock you to sleep. It was actually very soothing ti me. We didn't feel a thing the 2nd night going from Nassau to CC, but the current wasn't that great at CC as some of the shore excursions were cancelled due to the wind and the currents. The last night was the roughest of the 3. We could definitely feel the rocking that night. I remember hearing the ship creeking and popping and the doors were even moving a little, but it was still nothing scary, and really nothing compared to what some of you have been through. I do remember being in the atrium on the last night for the "Til We Meet Again" character appearances and feeling the ship rocking there. We were definitely having to use our "sea legs" then, and we could even tell that the Cruise Director was being bounced around a little as she talked! I think this may have had something to do with a front that was moving through because when we disembarked at PC, it was VERY chilly and windy...the water appeared to be very rough. I remembered telling the DH that I felt sorry for the people leaving on the next cruise that evening! :earseek:

We just came back an experience what I was told by an officer 14 - 18 ft swells. It was rough. Dinner at Tritons was tricky. Large decorations against window banged all though dinner. My husband and son had to go back to the room. On my way back I saw several people getting sick in the halls. People had trouble walking. The ship rocked and creaked all night long. When we arrived in Nassau things were fine. Smooth sailing rest of trip.

Just back from the 4/21 Wonder and it was soooooo smooth. We made kites on board and they wound not fly at CC because there was no wind. I was actully glad they couldn't fly.

I was on the Western in May 2004 and the seas were as calm as they could be the entire week. In Grand Cayman, the water in the port area was like glass. You could ski on it easily!

Our server told us that the Eastern cruises typically have bigger waves.
