how was Jon Stewart as the host?

I am a big big fan of Jon. I LOVE his show. I enjoyed his 'performance'.
Yes, he worked with what he "had"...etc. I loved the beginning. I wonder if that was his idea, etc. That was great. It seems that many here like Jon and last night, some comments were bring back Billy. I can totally understand that too. I loved Billy. He is great too! I also agree that the audience and acceptance speeches were so boring! That stupid music that they played once the winner started to open their mouth drove me crazy! I LOVED when Tom Hanks made fun of the acceptance speech thing. That was great! I loved Will Ferrell and Steve Carell with their make up.....Great Stchitck.

Yep, that is silly, 17 awards in the past several months for the one performance, how silly is that.

All in All.....good show. I watched the whole thing (easy for West Coasters).

I'm a fan of his show as well, and I thought Jon did an OK job (He didn't suck like others in the past have). There was a bit of variety between the scripted bits and his observations (I especially liked him commenting on Three 6 Mafia's acceptance: "Now THAT'S the way to accept an award"). But his stuff is very low-key. Low-key in a half-hour show works great. Low-key for over 3 hours is just a little long. It's funny but you really gotta hang in there. The opener was cute, but the thought of Billy Crystal & Chris Rock together in a teepee (ICK!!! Now I have to blind my mind's eye). Besides Jon I thought they had some other good things. The Ben Stiller bit was clever, but just went on way too long, Lily Tomlin & Meryl Streep channeling a Bob Altman film was also clever and funny (as you didn't get it immediately) but also went on a little long. The Steve Carrell/Will Farrell bit was cute but again, just a little too long. And most of that crowd was just grim!

I love Free4Life11's suggestion for Kathy Griffin, but you know she wouldn't do it! She always says that she only talks about people behind their backs so that she doesn't make them feel bad. I would love to see Robin Williams back...he's really the only performer with enough energy to keep that show going and you never know what he's going to say next.

but I would give a right body part (haven't figured out what part yet) to be one of Kathy's Gays!!!!

I love Jon Stewart--thought he did an admirable job. Agree with other posters that he seemed to be toned down--couldn't be too political for ABC television. Too bad. :sunny:
Overall the Oscars were Blah this year--maybe because there were no real surprises (I even predicted Crash would beat out Brokeback.)? :sunny:

Good for you! I think you were one of the few. It seemed like the one of those years where there wasn't going to be a landslide...none of the movies nominated for the big awards were blockbusters, but I was still surprised when Crash took it (especially the way Jack just laughed and said "Crash").

I too thought that within the confines of the show, he did a good job. I would love to see him back.

I really enjoyed John Stewart as host last night. I honestly don't know him or style very much so I didn't know what to expect. I would be happy to watch him again as host. One thing I did find though, was that his jokes seemed better at the start of the show and as the show went on, they went downhill a bit.
