We are going next year to Orlando and would like to include a visit to the Everglades.

Can anybody tell me if it is best to visit the Everglades by driving down and staying a night or 2 or is it best done using an Organised tour?

If a tour, can anyone recommend one?

Thanks Neil

hi
you can drive down to homestead/florida city in about 5-6hrs.stay at any of the chain motels - we stayed at days inn also villager inn basic but clean. from there it is only 10 miles to the main entrance and the best park of the everglades. i t does take a whole day to visit all the varios trails down as far as flamigo where there is a boat trip rond the area. we then usally stay at the same place that evening before either heading down to the keys or back to orlando.we certainly prefer to do our own thing but it depends whether you mind driving that distance. it is not avisable toattempt visit the everglades between april and october as the mosquitos are at full srength and really are a nightmare. we found out the hard way, tried a visit in may had only been out of the car 5 mins and our legs were balack with insects- it was like sommething out of a horror film.i wouldnt even attempt it with the strongest deet. have been several times in winter and the scenery especially the sunsets are out of this world :scratchin

We drove down and stayed at Flamingo Point in the park itself. Very basic but if you are happy to self cater take some food with you (shops some distance away) and have a great time.

As has been mentioned the mossies are a real killer in season so be careful!!
