How to use DAS with FP+

Hello

I am confused about how to use the DAS in conjunction with FP +. Does it essentially mean that you can have a FP+ and a return time unsung DAS at the same time for a different attraction? My son has autism... We don't do a ton of the rides with long lines because of the proximity of people in line. He's ok in 15-20 min lines. The DAS seems to make it difficult if I go to get a time and he doesn't understand getting on right then and there. Plus how can you leave him alone to go get a time if he's with me?

Not sure how it all works together.

A few questions first-
Are you going to Disney World or Disneyland?

Will it be just you and him, or will you have others in your group?

What sorts if attractions do you think he would like ?

And one question I can answer right away.
Fastpass and DAS are 2 separate programs. He can have a Fastpass time and a DAS Return Time at the same time.

I think you are going to WDW because you posted about the American Idol experience. So this is how DAS and FP+ work at WDW:

You will want to schedule your 3 FP+ per day in advance. That's at either 60 day for an onsite resort or 30 days for offsite. I suggest scheduling FP+ for those attractions that are most important to you/your son, especially if they are the more popular rides and commonly have longer lines.

When you get to WDW, go to Guest Relations to inquire about DAS.

Get your first DAS return time.
Do a FP+ ride or a ride with a short line.
Do the DAS ride.
Get a new DAS return time.
Do another FP+ ride, a ride with a short line or get a snack or shop.
Do the DAS ride.
repeat

Once you have used the 3 scheduled FP+, or the time has expired on them, you may select a 4th FP+ from a kiosk in the park. Once the 4th is used you can get a 5th. Etc.

If lines are not long, and you find the DAS to be cumbersome to your touring, you do not need to use it.

I believe your son is 15. Whether or not you can leave him sitting somewhere while you get a DAS return time is up to you. If you are the only 2 going, he will either need to stay with you when you get the return time, or wait nearby on his own. If you need to keep him next to you, I suggest you start preparing him for walking up to a ride to get a return time and then doing something else.

My recommendations would be the same as lanejudy.

For choosing which attractions to do Fastpass + for, some people choose their own 'must do' attractions because they want to make sure to schedule them.

Some people choose to use Fastoass + for the attractions that are likely to have the longest waits. That way, they can use the DAS for shorter wait attractions and not have it tied up with long wait ones.

If you are likely to want to repeat an attraction,you can get Fastpass Plus for it and get a DAS Return Time for the same attraction before using the Fastpass.
Some people have even 'looped' a ride by getting a Fastpass Plus time for early in the morning, getting a DAS Return Time and then riding thru the standby line. If you get to the park at rope drop, many attractions have very minimal wait times.

A touring plan like www.easywdw.com or www.touringplans.com can also help with figuring out which attractions are likely to have the shortest waits.

I think he will sit and wait for me but he does tend to " go look" if something catches his eye. I'll put a phone on him for that reason. Thank you for the clarification. I think we"ll give those ideas a go and I'll just have to tell him we have to come back. I think the visual time on the DAS might help

Don't know when your trip is, but we had a major meltdown in my house yesterday because AIE is closing before our trip. DS loves trying out, and it has become a must do for him. (Even though he has zero chance of making it.). I believe it is now set to close the end of this month.

At WDW you get DAS return times at the attraction. At DL/DCA you get them at kiosks around the parks. You MAY be able to get a first DAS return time at Guest Relations when you get the card, but i'm not sure that is standard practice - worth asking for, though.

Hi, I'm a 19 year old with autism. This was my first trip since it was inplented. After you get the DAS, you will need to go to the ride itself and get the times.

What had worked for ds is to get a DAS return time for an attraction near our FP+ before we go on that fp+ attraction. So we alternate between FP+ and DAS.

If there is a long Das return time, we'll get that before we go to eat a meal.
