How to transport an already decorated Christmas tree?

Due to a furnace dying we are moving Monday instead of New Years weekend as initially planned. Question is we have already decorated our tree and don't want to undo it for the move....it's a five foot small tree (real).

I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas. We thought about just putting Saran wrap around the whole thing. We are only moving about 10 minutes away so it won't be a long trip.

I was going to suggest wrapping it in plastic too. I would remove any especially fragile ornaments. Do you have a van or an SUV you can place the tree in? I would trim off an inch or so of the base of the tree before you set it up in the new place.

I was going to suggest either plastic wrap or a sheet. But I think I would more than likely just take off the ornaments and leave the lights and unbreakable bits on the tree. That way, too, you are now decorating your tree for the first time in your new house.

I once tried to move a decorated tree. In spite of being extremely carefully, ornaments fell.

Ended up taking all the ornaments off, moving the tree with ease, then enjoying putting them back on!

I used to deliver small decorated trees to Disney resort rooms. In order to make sure nothing fell off, I tied each ornament to the branches using ribbon. I never had a problem. Since you've already decorated your tree, it might be hard to do, but a piece of string connecting each ornament to the tree would prevent any of them from falling. It does sound like a lot of work.

Along the plastic wrap idea, I was going to suggest large garbagebags or tree bags tightly closed around the tree.
Maybe you could take off all the breakable ornaments and just leave the other stuff. Good luck

I don't have a suggestion, but rather a request. Could you video it and post it either here or on You Tube? I think it will make for a very entertaining video.

I think there are huge bags made for storing a fake tree in so maybe you could find one of those.

I would not use Saran Wrap though. I know how much a pain in the butt it is to wrap a dish in...a tree would be horrible!!

Get a tarp or maybe even those large spools or plastic that are used to wrap around pallets.

Trash bags are wonderful. I use them every year to tuck the tree away (Im lazy, i leave it all decorated minus the glass balls) which means a 2 hour car ride. never had broken things..

My parents have a tree downstairs in the basement that gets moved into a back room during the offseason. We wrap it in sheets for the ca. 10-foot move, and stuff falls off every time no matter how careful we are or how slowly we move it. We lost a couple of irreplaceable ornaments the first year we tried this, and thus learned that unbreakable ornaments are OK to withstand the move, but the breakable ones MUST be removed.
