How to thank DVC member

So I rented points from a member who went through an awful lot to book my family and I a vacation. What had seemed like an absolute impossibility he has somehow managed to piece together and make happen.
I was looking for 2 studios in either AKV or OKW...just the cheapest I could find. I had already planned that if I couldn't get those than we'd probably stay off property and try out Bonnet Creek. So, I was hoping for the best but expecting the worst. I was really surprised that things were all booked up for November. I didn't realize it was such a busy time for DVC members so I was getting a little discouraged and ready to throw in the towel. I found someone offering 160 points for a pretty good price and figured I'd give it one last shot to try to get 2 studios. Well...didn't happen. No studios available anywhere. There was a little availability at SSR but we had no interest in staying there. There happened to be some room left for 2 bedrooms at OKW but that was a whole lot more points than he was offering and that we could afford. Well, he sent me a message (after I had already started looking into Bonnet Creek) saying that he could rent me more points if I wanted the 2 bedroom at OKW. I told him it was just way more than we could afford and that $1500 was the most we had wanted to spend on rooms for this vacation. I thanked him for his help and patience and figured that was the end of it. Well, what do you know...he ends up offering me the 2 bedroom at OKW for the price we could afford! Granted it is in the form of 4 different reservations (hoping we don't have to keep switching rooms) but it's an 8 night stay in a 2 bedroom villa!!!!!!!!!! (258 points) for what was probably just over what he paid for his dues on those points. I can't get over his generosity (and yes, I did take all the safety precautions and checked him out and feel very confident about him...was given all his personal info, a pic of photo ID, I googled him, filled out rental agreement, checked to make sure he was a DVC owner, etc... I have no reason to believe he is being anything but wonderful and generous).

So...my question: How or what can I do to thank him. Saying a simple thank you just doesn't seem to be enough. Would it seem creepy of me to send him and his wife some sort of "thank you gift"? If it's not creepy...anyone have any ideas of what I could send?:scratchin

I'm glad it all worked out for you. Maybe once you get home and have had a wonderful time, you could send a nice bouqet of flowers, or something.

There may be something at the OKW gift shop, like a model of the lighthouse or something. He may like it, but some people really don't care for a lot of knick-knacks. It is hard picking out a t-shirt or something for someone else.

It really is hard to buy a Disney or DVC themed gift for someone you don't really know, unless it is a gift card that they could use on their next trip.

I'm glad that it all worked out for you also.

Although I have never rented any points, I don't think a gift would mean as much to me as hearing from them again after their trip and letting me know that they had a good time, they liked the accommodations and the resort and that everything went smoothly for them. Especially if it was their first Disney trip or first DVC experience. Some photos of their family having fun would be nice also. After all that's what WDW it's all about.
Knowing I helped them out and they helped me out would be enough.

I think a Disney gift card would be perfect!!! I agree----it was very generous of him to rent that many points for $1500. I'm sure he'd like to hear that you had a wonderful time as well as receive the gift card. Have a great trip!!!

I know if I had been the renter all I would want would be a thank you and a note saying that you had a wonderful time, that would certaintly be enough. However if I too were on the receiving end of such a generous act, I know that I would want to do something beyond that to really show my appreciation. I think the Disney Gift card is an excellent idea. If you ever need to rent points again you will know where to go! Glad that it all worked out for you! :goodvibes

I don't think anything would be expected and you've gotten the great ideas thus far. I'd agree:
- A thank you card with a photo and favorite trip memory would be awesome (and I know I'd love reading the recap)
- Maybe a Disney GC, something that could be used at the restaurant in their home resort
- A postcard while on your trip from the parks

Hope you have a great time - that's a great deal. You'll make this person the most desired renter of DVC out there. I'd definitely stay in touch if you hope to rent again in the future. Some renters like being able to build a relationship with 1-3 people if they rent frequently.

I don't think a thank you would be creepy at all! In fact I think it's really nice of you! Depending on how much you want to spend I think there are a lot of good options, there is nice DVC merchandise that you'll find in the DVC resort gift shops. Maybe something like that and note on a WDW postcard!

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions. I have a couple of ideas to think about now! :thumbsup2

I rented out my points to this wonderful family. After they returned they sent me the most lovely (homemade) thank you card. I thought that was so sweet and really appreciated the gesture!
Another time, I received a nice email with a family picture attached. That was great and I was able to put a face to a family!! :thumbsup2
