if a ticket has been "registered" I bought park tickets on craigslist a while back and was really worried about this. There a ticketing office you can call. I didn't save the number, but it was a ticket sales line that was only open 9-4PM. They can tell you if the ticket has been registered to someone's name. Which means they won't work for anyone else. You have to give them the little number under the magnetic strip. Call the general WDW number and they should be able to get the number to you.
If you're on property, there's a box office in downtown disney that can also check in person.
For someone to tell you absolutely can't check if a ticket has been used, they're wrong.
Mine worked fine and completely "virgin" WDW park tickets shouldnt go to waste if they don't have to!
