how to subscribe and get notified

I don't participate in the boards much anymore, especially since the change to the new forum software so I have a couple questions.

I used to subscribe to thread, is that now called "watched"?
Related, I've tried to watch a thread and receive email notification for new posts. I only received an email the following day, but not since any other posts have been made.

Am I missing something with the new software?

Correct, "watch thread" is the equivalent to subscribing. Emails and Alerts are given for the first new post since you last read the thread, but will not email each subsequent post until you read the thread again.
