We will be trying for a FOP fastpass, and thinking we will likely get one (staying onsite for 8 nights). What is the best way to see the queue? We wouldn't see it for rope drop standby or fastpass, correct? We'd love a second ride with a chance to see the queue. What is the best way to do this? Arriving at rope drop, but not too early? Riding in afternoon? Riding before closing? We'll be there late January if that matters.

You won't see any of it with FP. Just watch the wait times, lines have been super long lately, I would not wait more than a couple hours for it. The queue is cool, but not three hours cool.

You will see it for standby - you will just have to walk by most of it. Or do they redirect you a different way at the start of the day? I'd think they'd have you go through the standby queue, not the FP+ queue, no matter what time of the day?

From what I've read they've been directing everyone through the fastpass line first thing in the morning. I think it takes about 10 minutes just to walk through the standby queue even with no wait.

Yea during my passholder preview I recorded a video of the queue and it was an 8.5 minute video of just straight walking

If you go standby at Rope Drop you will be in the standby line, so you will see the things in the queue, you just might be walking by them quickly (but you could choose to hang back and go more slowly and let people behind you get in front of you)

I was there in mid July, rode multiple times, once stand by at rope drop(The rest FP) and Never walked by the floating Avatar! Pics of it looked interesting, but not 2 hrs of stand by interesting

In the morning when they open the park the line, since no one is currently waiting, is sent through the FP line to speed up the walk. Idk at what point they convert it to the standby line.. Could be 10 min, could be 30 min
