How to secret santa a family at christmastime

We're not religious people and so we don't go to church, but we are charitable people and so one thing we do each year is to go to our the Charter School (situated on our street) to do some giving.

We ask the Principal to give us five children with families that are "in need"...and ask for the gender and suggestions of toys/gifts that their families likely can't afford. If the kids want clothes, we're fine with that....some of the older kids do (girls especially). We remain anonymous....

The Red Cross will give you info on a family whose home burnt during the year. They can do it two ways, give you the gift info and you give the packages to them to deliver or, if the family agrees, will give you the contact info and let you deliver the gifts yourself.

This is my 18th year "adopting families" for Christmas.

I just went shopping this past weekend and spent $500 at American Eagle for 2 teenage boys I have in one of the families (I have 2 families).

Their mother passed away from cancer a few weeks after Christmas last year and the father is not working. Breaks my heart. I'm blessed I'm able to help make Christmas a little happier for them.

Since they are older I'm doing mostly clothes. I will get each one of them a $50 gift card to get a video game as well.

The other family I am waiting to get information from a local school. This will be a younger child so I will do clothes, toys, books as well as a complete turkey dinner for the family.

I look forward to doing this each year

I just did a search online for ways to adopt a family for Christmas in my area. A children's shelter for homeless children and youth, child abuse prevention center and a domestic abuse center all listed adopting a family for christmas as one of the volunteer services needed. You may want to check for these in your area.
