How to rent points for Disneyland Grand Californian Villas?

We are planning to go to Disneyland in March and would like to stay in The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. It is our understanding that we can rent the points, but we are not sure. 3 years ago we were able to rent points and stay at one of the resorts in Disney World, which was awesome. Can someone guide us on what to do and how to get those points for Disneyland? Thanks in advance, AB.

Villas In Disneyland are few and fill up quickly. I kinda doubt there's availability in 2 months especially with spring break/Easter.

We aren't interested in renting out our points, but if you let me know exactly what/when you're looking for, I can check if there is anything available.

If you decide to try to rent points from someone, you could post on the DVC board here on DIS. There is, of course, a level of trust and risk involved, but it sounds like you've rented before so you are probably aware of those concerns.

Hi disneydreams :)

Would you be able to check availability for march 2 - march 7?

That's be awesome! Thanks

You're welcome. You didn't mention how many people so I don't know what you are looking to rent size-wise, but I'm not sure it really matters, to be honest. For those dates (2013, right?), the availability is as follows:

Deluxe Studio: night of 3/6/13 only
2 Bedroom Villa: night of 3/4/13 only

1 Bedroom Villa: not available
2 Bedroom Lock-off Villa: not available
3 Bedroom Grand Villa: not available

Realistically, how far in advance should one do this to secure a room?

I just tried to rent points for June 15-22nd this week. There was no availability when I tried.

My understanding is that the points become available to the members of DVGC 11 months out and to the greater DVC population 7 months out, so if you can book 11 months out your chances are better.

If your dates are set in stone or if you are looking for a stay that is longer than 3 nights, I highly suggest that you find a GCV owner and book between 8 and 11 months. That said, you are going to pay a higher price during that time as you are taking advantage of the owners premium banking window. If you want a few nights and are flexible on dates(obviously not including holiday dates), you can wait until the 7 month window when bookings can be made by any DVC member. You will want that lined up so that they can get online right when the 7 month window opens. If you just want a night here or there and are REALLY flexible, you can ask at any time. There is spotty availability most of the year with the exception of Spring Break, Thanksgiving, and Christmas/New Years.

This ^^

Like PP mentioned you should book 7 months out at the latest in order to ensure a room, and even that is not a guarantee something will be available.

Our booked week overlaps some of the dates of your week. I booked our week at around 8 months out and checked again right as the 7 month window opened. It booked up almost immediately at the 7 month mark.

My understanding is that it's only 50 units and completely sold out.

Due to supply, these are the hardest DVC units to book. I remember a timeshare salesman showing us the Grand Californian Villas in an RCI book, but I'm guessing that booking would be a pipe dream.

Jumping into the discussion to ask how much the points for a 1br villa usually cost to rent? TIA

It's depends on when you go. David's Vacation Rental has a point calculator and estimated cost depending on points needed for your dates. You can probably get it a little cheaper per point price if you book privately, but there's a lot more risk too.

PP is correct, it will depend on the time of year you are wanting to go. David's is a great source for information and also a great place to rent from if you don't want to go the direct rental route. For a general range, I would say that it will cost you $400ish on the low end and $800ish on the high end per night.

I have NEVER seen availability for VGC through RCI! :sad2: Usually only WDW resorts! Although we already own @ VGC it would be nice to know I can ALSO get in by our other timeshare weeks trade WITHOUT using ANY of our DVC points! :) We never need to stay more than 4 days or less so our luck seems to be okay when trying for 7 months out reservations when using our BCV points! :thumbsup2 A few months out does gets a little tougher! That's when I don't mind using points for the DLR Hotels if needed. How about another exchange group like TUG? I've not tried it so don't know much about it but others may know! Maybe they rent there too?!:confused3
Good Luck!!:)

Can someone tell If you rent point to are you able to access the early entry every day of your stay? I thought I read once you couldn't

Anyone staying onsite does have access. You just need your room key. (This goes for WDW too)

Is early entry every day for onsite guests, or was that only for the holiday weeks last month?

It's everyday of on site guests but I think it's back to: Disneyland = Tues, Thurs & Sat
California Adventure = Mon, Wed, Fri & Sun
Although they have AP Early Entry ONLY on WEEKENDS from NOW til April 14th with a couple of weekends not available. It's the opposite of the hotel guest but if you have an AP with block out dates BUT you want to go - you must pay for the block day. This means Premium and sometimes Deluxe are good to go!! I think if you stay on property PLUS have an AP (mostly premium) you MAY have a choice! This is why we do DVC!
